‘Be At Your Best’ is Bank of Ireland’s wellbeing programme designed to support and encourage staff to engage in a range of activities which promote and encourage professional career development, physical and mental wellbeing.
It's about empowering our staff to take the time to invest in themselves, challenge their limitations and reach their highest potential.
There are four streams to the programme, Mind, Body, Career and Community with a range of initiatives and events that take place under each one. Be At Your Best is open to all employees with some events extended to family, friends and our local communities.
The programme is supported by over 168 local BAYB champions who actively engage in promoting and encouraging participation on the ground.
Some of the Be At Your Best initiatives also help create awareness and raise much needed funds for a number of the Banks charity partners throughout the year.
The real strength of the Be At Your Best programme comes from our staff‘s active involvement. By participating in Be At Your Best our colleagues benefit from increased health and wellbeing at work and at home.
The couch to 5k challenge caters for walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities. Training plans for different levels of ability along with running tips, advice on setting goals, nutrition hints and recipes plus a food and exercise diary for all participants. The event takes place across the country in ten different locations and is open to family, friends and the wider community.
A two week cycling event along the Wild Atlantic Way in aid of St. Vincent de Paul. A Big Blue box travels from town to town along the Wild Atlantic Way bearing a symbolic item that each local community wants to share with their neighbouring town. Hundreds of our employees take part along with 35 local communities across 9 counties. Our colleagues are delighted to show their support for initiatives like this and to strengthen the local communities where they live and work.
Over 60 of our colleagues took to the stage for Strictly BOI as we had 12 couples and two dance groups perform a number of challenging dance routines all in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation. With 8 gruelling weeks of training and rehearsals each act performed in the RDS with the support of their colleagues, family and friends in the audience. This initiative brought colleagues from across the group together while supporting their physical health for a great cause.
We encourage and support all our colleagues to take ownership of their professional career development via the Group Education Scheme and our partnership with the Institute of Banking. We are immensely proud of all our colleagues who choose to continually build on their skills and qualifications. We formally recognise the education achievements of colleagues who attained qualifications, by holding graduation events across the Republic of Ireland, Norther Ireland and Great Britain. Sustainable succession and continued professionalisation remains a strong focus for Be At Your Best.
Be Our Inspiration is our innovative way to enable our colleagues rediscover lost talents and to inspire us as they do so. The 24 acts that pass the audition stage spend 12 demanding months learning their chosen talent in preparation of their performance in front of 2,000 people including family and friends.
Throughout the year each act also fundraise for one of the Banks chosen charity partners with 100,000k raised for Barnardo’s last year. This initiative demonstrates that with the right support, hard work and dedication anything is possible.
With the support of Pieta House, Be At Your Best developed the Mind Ur Buddy Programme. The Buddies are a contact point for anybody who needs support and are taught how to notice the tell-tale signs of changes in behaviour of people in the workplace and what to do if they spot them.
It is important to note that our Buddies are confidential helpers offering supports for differing levels of stress not just those in an extreme state. We have over 100 Buddies in different locations across the group. This has been a great way for us to create a culture of support and openness among colleagues.
Bank of Ireland UK has been a proud sponsor of Lap the Lough, Northern Ireland’s largest cycling event, since 2015. Since it began in 2006, Lap the Lough has grown from strength to strength with Bank of Ireland entering over 160 participants last year from Northern Ireland, Bristol, London and Dublin.
The event is open to employees, customers, friends and family and we will provide support throughout your training.
Head Shed provides the opportunity for employees to participate in an engaging and innovative set of activities and workshops from leading experts and academics focussing on promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace and at home.
A focal point for the initiative is set up in communal areas, where employees can meet to discuss issues relating to mental wellbeing. Promotional materials are provided that can be taken away, and employees are encouraged to leave their tips and comments on mental wellbeing. The full programme of events varies from location to location with the initiatives being led by your local Be at Your Best champions.
