I am a finance professional with nearly 20 years’ finance experience in the Irish financial services industry including credit union, building society, health insurance and banking sectors. I joined the Finance Services part of the Bank of Ireland in June 2015.
In my view, organisational leaders play a very important role in setting the tone for the shift towards increased diversity and inclusiveness in any organisation. Throughout my professional career, I have been fortunate to work in organisations where the inclusiveness and diversity agenda has been one of the top priorities for the senior leadership teams.
Within Group Finance in Bank of Ireland, I have experienced strong leadership support for an inclusive and diverse working environment, including but not limited to, appreciating and celebrating different cultures, empowering people to make decisions, supporting employees for family commitments at short notice and encouraging team members to take part in volunteer day activities. This enables employees to be fully engaged in work which in turn supports Bank of Ireland Group Finance in the achievement of its key objectives.
Every organisation starts from a different place and is unique in its own right but there is always room for improvement. This is no different for us in Bank of Ireland and to recognise this, the organisation has launched the inclusion and diversity agenda which is sponsored by the Group Executive Committee and is led by the senior leadership team. I am confident that we will continue to make further inroads in fostering an inclusive and diverse environment within the organisation to make it an even better place to work for the generations to come.
