Division Description

The Group Technology & Customer Solutions Division provides Operations, IT Run & Change, and other services to the Bank of Ireland Group, through internal capability as well as management of external vendors and outsourcing partners.

Description of business unit

Group Business Continuity Management and Operational Continuity in resolution (GBCM & OCIR) is part of GCS. GBCM & OCIR is responsible for developing and setting a comprehensive vision and approach as to how the Group manages business continuity risks (technology, incident/ crisis management & business continuity) and the management and maintenance of OCIR information and that ensures that Bank of Ireland Group meets the applicable regulatory requirements associated with ensuring operational continuity during a resolution event.. The GBCM & OCIR team is responsible for implementing the appropriate business continuity management framework, management tools, methodologies and the provision of sound advice to all Divisions on key business continuity and OCIR risks.

Purpose of the Role

The successful candidates will have as their primary responsibility ensuring that business units across the Group understand, support and participate in the Group BCM/OCIR agenda effectively and with minimum friction or disruption to their day-to-day business activities. Additionally, as a member of the Business Engagement team the candidates will be expected to identify, lead and deliver on a portfolio of initiatives that support the evolution of the Group's BCM and OCIR capability.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that business units across the Group engage appropriately to support the Group BCM/OCIR agenda/strategy
  • Ensure a positive BCM/OCIR experience exists for business units by participating in the development and management of an interaction experience that minimizes friction, bureaucracy and disruption to BAU operating activity
  • Manage a clearly prioritised set of BCM/OCIR initiatives that supports the evolution of this area to align to regulatory expectations and industry best-in-class
  • Support a working environment where the Group's Purpose and Values are at the centre of ways of working and day to day activities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders/partners to ensure that there is a strong level of engagement and awareness around BCM and OCIR activities
  • Ensure a robust risk management structure, environment & process is delivered across the business unit that meets group expectations around risk profile and 2nd/3rd line reviews.

Essential Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a relevant 3rd level degree or have experience within Business Continuity management

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience as a Risk and Business Continuity Management specialist in a similar capacity, preferable in the financial sector
  • Ability to provide intellectual rigour to risk assessment, development of business solutions and decision making
  • Technical knowledge:
    • Up to date knowledge of regulatory and industry guidelines for risk management and mitigation within financial services
    • Demonstrate understanding and evidence of delivering against all elements of the Business Continuity Life Cycle
  • Strong financial and analytical acumen with the ability to manage an extremely broad and diverse agenda.
  • Ability to understand, identify and pragmatically influence the proportionate, risk based approach to mitigation and monitoring.
  • Confident, articulate and independent minded approach. Ability to deal with both the 'big picture' and the finer detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to work effectively with and influence the actions of stakeholder andcredibility to influence senior management and the wider internal and external stakeholders

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Strong business knowledge of the Group's Risk Framework, organisation, processes, products and systems
  • Relevant academic qualification and/or business experience.
  • Membership of professional body (e.g. BCI, DRII or EPS)
