Division Description

The Finance & Accounting Division is made up of a number of core finance teams both at business unit and Group level. We perform a key management and control function in ensuring all Group financial and management reporting processes are appropriately governed. The Finance Division has overall responsibility for driving the Group budgeting and forecasting process, developing Group-focused financial insight and analysis and delivering the Group's statutory, regulatory and external reporting. We do this through collaborative business partnering in each of the Divisions and with centralised Finance shared / specialist services.

Description of business unit

Reporting to the Group Advanced Analytics Lead, the Business Intelligence team is responsible for the development and execution of the Bank's data analytics strategy. The role holder will deliver value-prioritised business intelligence projects in a scrum team on behalf of internal customers; and contribute to identifying appropriate framework tools and standards to enable Bank of Ireland to become a data-driven organisation.

Purpose of the Role

This is a Group role to contribute to specific business intelligence projects, realising the value of our data. You will design, develop and deliver solutions to businesses across the Group, using the latest technologies in data exploration and visualisation.

You will have an opportunity to partner with the Group Performance Reporting on a range of data visualisation projects, collaborating on appropriate ways of working and new methodologies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Build data visualisations to provide insight into business performance and strategy
  • Use analytical skills to tackle business issues, and support the organisation's strategy and values
  • Collaborate with colleagues from across the Bank to drive the adoption of EDW
  • Review, document and recommend improvements to current reporting and system processes
  • Contribute to a creative culture centred on an agile environment, value prioritisation and design thinking
  • Promote awareness of analytics, emerging industry trends (inc. regulation) and a digital future
  • Support Finance Ambition, Inclusion & Diversity, and our shared Group values and purpose

Advanced Analytics create data-driven solutions to support the business. We collaborate with other specialists in a hub and spoke network, spread capability awareness and develop new talent. The team is built on three pillars: value prioritisation, design thinking and agile delivery. Business Intelligence is a new function reporting into Advanced Analytics, and dedicated to transforming the Bank's reporting.

Essential Qualifications

Third Level qualification, in mathematics, statistics, finance, IT, or another discipline including a significant numerical element

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deliver and achieve results within demanding timescales
  • Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills: Word/Excel/PowerPoint

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with large datasets from multiple sources and SQL programming
  • Design and automated production experience in reporting or Tableau data visualisation
  • Ability to translate business issues into appropriate analysis and communicate results
  • Experience of relational databases, database structures and design
  • Understanding of process flow, data management, GDPR and data lineage concepts
