Division Description

Group Technology & Customer Solutions comprises a number of key business areas: Group Customer Origination & Fulfilment, Group Customer Services, Group Services, IT@BOI, Group Information Security, Risk Management Support and the Group Portfolio Office. These businesses are supported by HR and Finance partners.

Description of business unit

The Infrastructure Operations Team role is to "Enable the Service" through driving our partners in providing the Bank with the Technology required to run the business, securing the Customers and Banks data, improving stability and remaining current in order to provide a premier service.

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of the Cloud Engineer is to support the Cloud Services Manager in the delivery of excellent Customer Service through provision of Cloud Services. The Cloud Engineer will provide support across a number of areas;

  • Being a hands-on and experienced cloud infrastructure & DevSecOps engineer to play a major part in the design, implementation, future support and innovation of BOI next generation of technology solutions
  • Cover the full software delivery life cycle whilst demonstrating proven technical capabilities, commercial awareness, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders and Third Party providers
  • Support the vision to innovate and build the best technology solutions, moving at pace towards a best in class operation. This will require passion and enthusiasm to develop an agile environment, using the latest technologies and practices

Key Accountabilities

  • Defining and implementing automation with open source technology to deliver immutable infrastructure and consistent environments
  • Operational support and engineering for large distributed software applications
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in all aspects IaaS/PaaS/SaaS reliability, release management and integration testing
  • Define a monitoring strategy that allows the gathering and analysing of metrics from both infrastructure and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding. Demonstrable experience in the effective use of metrics and statistics and the ability to use the outputs effectively in communication
  • Works within the overall Technology Services framework to ensure that Cloud support models and processes are built and enhanced to ensure a consistent approach across CSP and that adoption is maintained
  • Provide analysis of current capacity and growth to feed into BOI capacity planning
  • Availability to provide occasional out of hours support during major incidents requiring 2nd/3rd level analysis of Cloud Services
  • Support the Cloud Management Office (CMO) in understanding the cost and billing implications from a technical perspective whilst providing input in obtaining agreement to a prioritised backlog of activity
  • Supports the Cloud Services Manager managing the Third Parties involved in provisioning Cloud services
  • Promotes new technologies and techniques and drives improvements to tools and processes required to achieve greater efficiency and optimisation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment using Agile methodologies with minimal oversight or supervision
  • Support in the definition and maintenance of a continuous integration and continuous delivery framework

Key responsbilities of this role

Essential Qualifications

Cloud technologies certifications; ideally to Solution Architect Level

Essential Skills & Experience

5+ year's experience to include:

  • As a key member of the Infrastructure Operations Cloud Services team, you will ensure success in building and migrating applications, software and services on the AWS/Azure platform.
  • Accountability for the technical engagement and assurance of success during the implementation of projects; defining implementation architectures, developing a deep expertise in Cloud technologies as well as broad know-how around how applications and services are constructed using cloud as a platform/service.
  • You will be a subject matter expert on areas relating to customer applications and services (e.g., AI/Machine Learning, Containers, Security, Big Data etc.).
  • Develop, optimise and maintain the organisation' cloud infrastructure IaaS/PaaS/SaaS services.
  • Significant experience of cloud technologies especially Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure

Skills

  • Strong DevSecOps experience
  • AWS and Azure full stack exposure
  • CI / CD and automatization pipelines
  • Problem / Incident management experience (ITIL)
  • Pro-active issue resolution and diagnostics
  • Understanding of commercial imperatives and impacts
  • Managing through third parties / multiple vendors
  • Ability to understand and input to the roadmap and support scalability and optimisation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills while being able to communicate at all levels effectively
  • Strong focus on end customer impacts and supporting service
  • Understands risk and operating in a regulatory sector
  • Display a product mind-set and thinking about how projects consume these services

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Project management certification PRINCE 2 / PMI or equivalent desirable - Six Sigma or equivalent an advantage
