This is a critical role within a key programme in Bank of Ireland UK that will deliver continuous improvements to customer outcomes and foster a culture of customer obsession.

Purpose of the Role

The Compliance Advice Senior Manager is responsible for supporting the 2nd Line Programme Lead, Head of Compliance Advice, the Head of Compliance and Conduct and ultimately the UK Chief Risk Officer in overseeing as second line of defence customer outcomes and compliance with regulation across the programme.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the second line of defence oversight of regulatory and conduct risk across the programme. Taking reasonable steps to ensure appropriate 2nd line challenge is provided as to whether any proposed solution meets the requirements and outcomes expected of the Bank's regulators.
  • Responsible for providing regulatory guidance to the first line of defence and challenging interpretation and approach.
  • Lead the production of Compliance Advice proposal opinions for governance through the Customer Board and Board Risk Committee.
  • Responsible for briefing of the 2nd Line Programme Lead Head of Compliance Advice, Head of Compliance & Conduct and the CRO in relation to the programme.
  • Regulatory and conduct risk lead representative on Project Direction Groups, Steerings and Working Groups across the programme.
  • Responsible for defining any consequential amendments to Bank regulatory and conduct risk policies, as required, and associated approval governance.
  • Liaises closely with the Compliance and Conduct team, the 2nd Line Programme Lead, Workstream Leads, Overall Programme Lead and Senior Management across the programme, Risk function and Business.
  • Ensure full compliance with all Group, Legal and Regulatory requirements and standards, as applicable.
  • Lives and supports Group culture, values and behaviours.

Essential Qualifications

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimal 8 years' experience in Banking / Financial Services.
  • Significant regulatory and conduct risk experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements applicable to the retail banking sector i.e. FCA (SYSC; MCOB; BCOB; CONC)
  • Strong business acumen and risk awareness, preferably gained from risk function experience.
  • Understanding of banking risk management approaches and working in a regulated environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work with a wide variety of stakeholders simultaneously, including senior executives; excellent influencing and networking skills.
  • Strong desire to make a real difference for customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and complex environment with an excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to write succinct business executive summary documents (MS Word, PowerPoint, etc.); excellent presentation skills.
  • Dynamic, energetic and motivated.
