The business unit is the second of defence within the Bank and is integral to the management of risk.

The team is there to independently oversee and challenge the execution of credit risk strategies, policies, controls, portfolio management, asset quality and provision adequacy across Retail and Commercial lending.

Role Purpose

Working with colleagues across multiple teams including the Business, Prudential Risk, Finance, and Group Impairment Analysis & Reporting (IAR), the role holder will ensure that the financial aspects of credit risk are recognised within planning, forecasting, stress testing and impairment management. Specifically they will oversee the ongoing adequacy of provisions across the UK Retail and Commercial portfolios and will be the Credit Risk champion on the wider Group IFRS9 programme. They will ensure that credit risks are adequately reflected in the annual ICAAP process by providing expert challenge and input.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carryingout sensitivity and forecasting analysis around risk appetite and loss forecasting;
  • Implementa framework that provides assurance that Lending strategies and back book management adequately control for risk
  • Ensuring that provisions for bad debts are correctly measured, forecasted and accounted for.
  • Consider the impact of book composition & dynamics, forward economic guidance and front & back book customer strategies;
  • Preparingregular reports for the Credit Committees setting out the challenges and horizon risks that may impact the performance of the portfolios, and subsequently risk appetite, lending strategies and impairments;
  • Lead engagement with Prudential Risk, Finance and other key parties in relation to Credit Risk financials; and
  • Regulatory return sign-off from a Credit Risk perspective.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience of Retail (secured and unsecured) and Commercial credit risk management;
  • Understanding ofIAS 39 and IFRS9;
  • Capital management and the supporting frameworks including Standardised and IRB;
  • Risk models, specifically Probabilities of Default, Loss Given Default, Exposure at Default and the construct of Expected Loss.
  • Excellent knowledge of SAS
  • Experience in probability simulation techniques would be an advantage.
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Report writing skills
