Description of business unit

The Group Culture and Internal Communications function has recently merged under one team and has an important role to play in helping Bank of Ireland realise its Purpose, 'Enabling our customers, colleagues and communities to thrive'. This team works hand in hand with the business to drive cultural transformation, embed its values and connect colleagues with the Banks Vision and Strategy. As a result, this division crosses over every part of the bank and adopt a partnership approach to working with key stakeholders.

Purpose of the Role

As Bank of Ireland continues to transform, so too is how we communicate, collaborate with stakeholders and reach our colleagues across the group in an engaging way. Working with the Head of Internal Communications and the Director of Group Culture and Internal Communications the jobholder is responsible for co-developing and executing an engaging communications strategy for Bank of Ireland, aligned to the Group's strategic objectives. The jobholder will support the internal communications requirements of stakeholders within the Bank including: Group-wide CEO related Communications, Brand, culture programme leads and major change initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

If you have four years plus internal communications experience and passionate about delivering compelling, creative internal communications to help drive change and employee engagement then this job may be for you. Working with the Group's Head of Internal Communications, within a 'start-up' like environment, in this role, you will:

    • Support in the development and delivery of change communications plans which support the banks transformation agenda across Culture, Systems and Business Model.
    • Provide hands-on comms expertise to support implementation of the Group CEO Communication's strategy and plan, including ensuring important milestones and information are communicated to relevant employees and key stakeholders.
    • Create compelling and creative content and messages using story-telling to engage employees about business progress and priorities, aligned to the Banks strategic priorities.
    • Support the management of crisis and incident communications that may arise internally, consulting with the UK Communications team and businesses across the wider Group as required, with the flexibility to engage in internal communications issues which may arise outside of normal office hours.
    • Working with the culture programme leads, develop streamlined, tailored campaigns and supporting content to help reinforce the Group's purpose and values.
    • Maintain the Groups Internal Communications plan and ensure this plan is shared on a weekly basis.
    • Represent the function with senior leaders and divisional communications representatives across the Group to communicate change and key initiatives in a compelling way.
    • Support in the delivery of impactful and engaging events for our internal teams, embedding our strategy, purpose and values into everything we do and say.
    • Be well-used to quickly producing 'business as usual' announcements and comfortable putting together talking points, scripts and speeches for leadership events, videos and webcasts.
    • Act as a team player within the Group Internal Communications team across the island of Ireland, the UK, US and our broader European presence.
    • Review our existing internal communications channels and processes, alongside our flagship strategic communications materials, identifying where the gaps are and what needs to be developed to fill them, working with the head of IC and creative agency partners to deliver new and engaging content.
    • Measuring, reviewing and optimising the effectiveness of IC through analytics and feedback to drive increased employee engagement levels.
    • Create internal messaging across a variety of media for target audiences, ensuring they are delivered effectively via existing and new channels, working collaboratively with Group External Communications and other Group colleagues (e.g. online, social media teams) to ensure messages are aligned.
    • Take ownership for and deliver Group Internal communications projects that have been assigned to the job holder by the Head of Internal Communications along with the Group Head of Culture and Internal Communications as required.
    • Work closely with the Video / Audio, Channels and Web and Events, Creative and Channels lead to ensure our approach is coordinated and joined up.

Essential Qualifications

  • 3rd level qualification and/or relevant professional qualifications.
  • Four plus years' experience in an organisation of significant scale with diverse operations and internal communications requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record of delivering enhanced employee engagement within complex and fast paced businesses, at both an operational and strategic level, enabling continuous improvement
  • Excellent writer

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Commercially astute with experience of change management communications, you will need the confidence and tenacity to motivate and engage the senior leaders.
