Description of Business Unit

Decision Science is responsible for management information, regulatory returns, risk model development and automated decision strategies across a broad range of credit portfolios. Our customers span all corners of the Group including Group Risk, Retail Ireland, Retail UK, Finance and Corporate Banking. We are a specialist unit with a broad skillset covering risk management, data management, data mining, statistical analysis, regulation and I.T.

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of the role is to createefficiencies in the production, transformation and management of data for reporting, model development, calibration and monitoring purposes within Decision Science. A key consideration is to develop and enhance data management activities and governance for all key portfolios under Decision Science's remit. To deliver enhanced data automation and manage the migration of data to the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The role holder will provide analytical and data management expertise for key regulatory programmes and Group initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Proactively propose alternative/new methods of completing tasks with a view to increased accuracy and efficiency. Enforcing policies to enhance data quality and efficiencies in the production of datasets used for model development, calibration, regulatory returns and monitoring purposes.
  • Deliver enhanced data automation, and manage the migration of data across all portfolios to the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). Manage, monitor and undertake a lead role in User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Streamline the access, sharing and storage of data for all portfolios and for use across Decision Science and wider Group units where relevant.
  • Assist in the application and roll-out of the Group's Data Management Policy across Decision Science.
  • Provide analytical and data management expertise to key regulatory programmes (CCP, TRIM, BCBS 239) and group projects (Core Banking System Programme, GDPR compliance data management).
  • Monitor and analyse information and data systems and evaluate their performance to identify enhancements and efficiencies and identify opportunities to deploy the new technologies being rolled out within the Group to maximum effect.
  • Proactively develop strong relationships with relevant internal and external intermediaries, and in particular, the EDW team to drive and deliver Decision Science's agenda and data management strategy.
  • Support regulatory interactions through the application of data and analytical expertise where required.
  • Manage and develop team members, undertake goal setting and reviews ensuring that a positive and supportive culture is in place allowing team members to thrive.

What is the opportunity?

The Data Management Manager position provides a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic analytics unit within the Group Risk function. The role will afford a significant level of exposure to internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidates will regularly interact with the teams across Group Risk in addition to multiple business units across the BOI Group. Opportunities to develop data management and data interrogation skills along with opportunities to propose the introduction of data related efficiencies will be provided.

Essential Qualifications

Third Level qualification in mathematics, information technology, or other numerical discipline.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a data management environment.
  • Understanding and preferably experience of proposed Group architecture platforms (EDW/Tableau/Abacus/Axon).
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to grasp the complexity of data management with a strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures plus experience in designing and developing processes.
  • Familiarity with data models and relational database concept and proficiency with data analysis tools to interrogate large datasets (e.g. SAS, Excel, VBA, Teradata, SQL Server, Access).
  • Strong interpretative and analytical skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and provide a professional, objective and independent viewpoint.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into clear and concise reports.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver within demanding timeframes.
  • Self-starter who embraces autonomy and accountability.

  • Excellent organisational / project management skills
  • Expertise in presenting results of analysis to business stakeholders.
