Part of IT@BoI, the Strategy Architecture and Innovation (SA&I) team are an Enterprise Architecture team. The team purpose is to define the future technology landscape to meet customer and business needs and to guide change projects to deliver the solutions that implement that future, innovating along the journey.

SA&I develop technology strategies, associated roadmaps, supporting technology principles and standards. The team then guides and governs solution architecture to ensure that appropriate enterprise solutions are developed consistent with strategies, roadmaps, principles and standards

An Architect is the accountable governing architect that implements the vision and roadmap for a specific domain (business or technology), ensuring that the estate migrates over time to the reference architecture. They may also develop the associated strategy, roadmaps and reference architectures.

The Data Optimisation Architect is specifically accountable for:

  • the development of data archiving, storage and optimisation strategies and roadmaps for the bank and defining associated standards and principles
  • for the development of data lifecycle strategies and roadmaps for the bank and defining associated standards and principles

All solutions should be designed with the objective of delivering the Technology Strategy and its approach of re-platform and renewal. This role reports to a Principal Architect.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for data archiving, decommissioning and data optimisation strategies, standards and principles
  • Define data lifecycle strategies in line with audit, regulatory and operational requirements as relevant to different master-data sets (e.g. customer, product, risk etc.)
  • Working with technology partners, define data storage and optimisation strategies, standards and principles for each core infrastructure stack
  • Based on data lifecycle, storage and optimisation strategies, define supporting technology strategies, standards and principles for archiving requirements
  • Work with change delivery teams and technology partners to ensure infrastructure changes impacting data storage or presentation are in line with approved strategies, standards and principles and provide high-level solution design approval via the Architecture Review Board
  • Assess and approve changes to key reporting capabilities to ensure solutions are designed in line with non-functional requirements and SLAs
  • Define and/or contribute to strategy definition for the specific domain, in support of business strategic priorities and challenges
  • Define and/or contribute to development of roadmaps that define the steps required to deliver the agreed strategies
  • Create and/or contribute to reference architectures (transitions and targets)
  • As strategy, roadmaps and project architecture are developed ensure that data is gathered on the as-is and to-be landscape, and that use of the Abacus tool is maximised
  • Demonstrate business and technical knowledge/acumen
  • Direct and guide a change programmes, maintain oversight and play an architecture governance role throughout the lifecycle of a change project
  • Direct solution architects to design architectures that implement strategy and roadmaps in compliance with the guidance from Principles, Standards, Policies and Guidelines
  • Verify and evidence application of Principles and Standards on all Technology Change Projects
  • Work closely with colleagues in SA&I and the business stakeholders to identify solutions that are effective and improve business value
  • Escalates to and inform Principal Architects
  • Engage with projects and business functions in terms of architecture guidance, governance and support
  • Display innovation and an ability to conceptualize new initiatives and provide enhanced business capabilities via technical solutions
  • Challenge the status quo and introduce innovation to our processes, ways of working and engagement, and solutions
  • Create and/or contribute to architecture guidance artefacts including principles, policies, standards and templates
  • Support the collection of architecture metrics/data on projects to facilitate SA&I reporting
  • Create and develop relationships across Business and IT to ensure that the architecture(s) proposed are aligned to the Business need, are fit for purpose and provide value for the investments made
  • User tailored communication techniques e.g. Visualisation to share strategy, roadmap, landscape knowledge, challenges, options and complex technical concepts with stakeholders
  • Lead by example and demonstrate leadership standards and practices, showing full support for the SA&I and IT@BOI leadership teams
  • Be an ambassador for IT@BOI, influencing stakeholders, colleagues and peers internally and external to IT@BOI
  • Ensure full compliance with all Group, Legal and Regulatory requirements and standards

Essential Qualification:

  • Primary degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Proven track record in working in data and information architecture
  • Advanceddata optimisation, including archiving, capabilities
  • Proven track record for designing enterprise level solutions
  • Working knowledge of specific components of the technology landscape
  • Demonstrated abilities in visioning and high level solution capabilities

Skills

  • Expert in data archiving and decommissioning strategies
  • Expert in data optimisation techniques, including underlying infrastructure requirements
  • Ability to discern elegant/practical solutions
  • Ability to work with deep-dive technical SME`s and decisive when presented with disparate technical solutions.
