Division Description

The Finance & Accounting Division is made up of a number of core finance teams both at business unit and Group level. We perform a key management and control function in ensuring all Group financial and management reporting processes are appropriately governed. The Finance Division has overall responsibility for driving the Group budgeting and forecasting process, developing Group-focused financial insight and analysis and delivering the Group's statutory, regulatory and external reporting. We do this through collaborative business partnering in each of the Divisions and with centralised Finance shared / specialist services.

Description of business unit

Reporting to the Chief Data Officer (CDO), the Advanced Analytics team is responsible for the development and execution of the Bank's data analytics strategy. The role holder will deliver value-prioritised analytics projects in a scrum team on behalf internal customers; and contribute to identifying appropriate framework tools and standards to enable Bank of Ireland to become a data driven organisation.

Purpose of the Role

This is a Group role to lead technical solution delivery for analytics projects, realising the value of our data. You will design, develop and deliver solutions to businesses across the Group, using the latest technologies in data exploration, modelling and visualisation.

You will have an opportunity to partner with the business on a wide range of projects, collaborating on appropriate ways of working and proposing new methodologies.

In a Group Data Office management position, you will contribute more broadly to the achievement of overall strategies, plans and priorities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Build predictive models and data visualisations to provide insight into business process and strategy
  • Use analytical skills to tackle business decisions, and support the organisation's strategy and values
  • Coach data analysts and support Group-wide analytics talent development initiatives
  • Engage business network to generate demand, discover issues and innovate solutions
  • Collaborate with colleagues to eliminate silos, drive EDW adoption and develop best practice
  • Contribute to a creative culture centred on an agile environment, value prioritisation and design thinking
  • Promote awareness of analytics, emerging industry trends (inc. regulation) and a digital future
  • Support Finance Ambition, Inclusion & Diversity, and our shared Group values and purpose

Essential Qualifications

MSc or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Analytics, Finance or equivalent quantitative field preferred.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in data science, including statistical model development such as logistic regression, CHAID, neural networks or machine learning
  • Excellent technical skills including working with large datasets, relational databases and experience with a combination of tools such as SQL, Tableau, SAS, R and Python
  • The ability to challenge the status quo and support reengineering of process and use of data for business benefit
  • Good communication, presentation and business partner skills to work effectively with wider CDO, finance, front-line business, marketing and risk teams
  • Strong interpretative and analytical skills, with the confidence to provide a professional, objective and independent viewpoint
  • Experience of delivery to challenging targets with a proven ability to handle competing deadlines
  • High energy, bias for action, drive for results, strong resilience and focus on execution excellence

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing, training or coaching a team of data analysts
  • Previous experience with an agile environment, value prioritisation and design thinking
  • Understanding of process flow, data management, GDPR and data lineage concepts
