Description of business unit

Decision Science is the analytical centre of excellence within Group Risk. Our responsibilities include:

  • developing all of the Group's credit risk models, both for use in operational decision-making and for IRB regulatory capital calculation and IFRS9 impairment calculation
  • increasing the use of credit risk models to automate decision-making and move away from manual processes
  • maintaining and monitoring these models, and generating appropriate insight
  • maintaining credit risk data and producing regular and ad hoc credit risk reporting and insight
  • implementing and maintaining all of the Group's credit risk models in appropriate technical infrastructures

Purpose of the Role

The Decision Architecture team is responsible for delivering new Decision Engines and maintaining the existing systems across the bank or Ireland Group. The systems, a mixture of real time and batch, house scorecards, Basel models, policy rules and collection strategies throughout the Bank of Ireland Retail Divisions across both RoI & UK.

Each Retail Division includes Mortgages, Credit Cards, Motor Finance, Loans & Overdraft portfolios. Within RoI we predominantly lend through the Bank of Ireland brand, whilst in the UK we also lend through our partnership brands such as Post Office and AA.

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Lead Analyst to join our Decision Architecture Team, offering an opportunity to lead the development and implementation of changes to our Decision Systems and also manage a team of Decision Architecture analysts.

Key Accountabilities

The role requires some travel across ROI, UK and NI.

  • Lead complex development of system changes into any of the supported Decision Architectures systems.
  • Manage multiple changes within your team ensuring all changes delivered to Decision Architectures robust BAU process
  • Fully support the banks transformation programmes
  • Ensure continuous development of your direct reports as per the group's core values.
  • Work with RoI & UK Retail businesses to identify and analyse change opportunities, propose pragmatic solutions, document and justify recommendations.
  • Design, code and document credit risk systems, specifically Experian Strategy Manager and TRIAD within defined timescales.
  • Undertake & document testing and implementation of strategy changes into live environment.
  • Monitor system changes post implementation to ensure performance matches expectations.
  • Accurately implement application, behavioural and capital risk measurement scorecards.
  • Ensure adherence to an appropriate and rigorous testing & release process

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE Grade C or above
  • Maths, English and Science

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 3 years' experience working within a Decision Architecture environment or equivalent systems environment.
  • A track record of delivering change into customer impacting production environments
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrable track record delivering change into one or more of the following systems:
    • PCO
    • PCCM
    • TRIAD
    • CACS
    • ADM
    • TRANSACT 5
    • NBSM
    • Probe
    • LinkSM
    • ADM
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience including Senior Management
  • Highly organised, enthused and energetic with the drive and motivation to achieve agreed goals

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

In addition to the systems stated above, any experience of the below coding languages would be advantageous but not mandatory:

  • SAS
  • Python
  • VBA
  • C
  • Any experience of the following operating systems would also be highly advantageous but not mandatory:
  • Z/OS Mainframe (TSO, Fileaid, JCL)
  • TSYS (TS2)
  • FD (First Vision or Vision Plus)
  • Unix (Shell Scripting)
  • AS400
