Description of business unit

Leveraged Finance is a key business within Bank of Ireland (BOI) Corporate Banking, with offices in Dublin, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, Stamford and Chicago. Its mandate is to originate, structure and arrange acquisition debt facilities in support of key private equity clients with assets sourced across the UK, European and US leveraged loan markets.

BOI is an active lead arranger in the European and US leveraged finance markets and a dedicated Portfolio Management team in Dublin has full responsibility for all aspects of credit & relationship management of the European book post-closing.

Purpose of the Role

We are now looking to strengthen the Dublin based Portfolio Management team with a Deputy Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day credit management of a number of leveraged finance transaction post-closing.

The successful applicant will be involved in the management of the portfolio from a credit and relationship management perspective including the preparation of credit reviews / applications, the monitoring of transaction performance and the assessment of proposals received from portfolio companies / sponsors.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensuring the highest standards of credit management and monitoring of a portfolio of leveraged deals (across a variety of sectors / geographies and capital structures).
  • Timely completion of credit papers and credit reviews through the in-depth assessment of financial and non-financial information, ensuring a thorough and critical analysis of the relevant transaction.
  • Development and maintenance of good working relationships both internally (including Credit, other Corporate Banking teams and the wider BOI Group) and externally (clients, syndicate banks, private equity sponsors and financials / legal advisers).
  • Keen awareness of the importance of risk culture, including adherence to relevant internal / external compliance and regulatory controls.
  • Attendance at syndicate and bilateral, lender/client meetings (includes some overseas travel).
  • Proactive identification / harnessing of business development opportunities within the existing portfolio.
  • Undertaking specific initiatives and projects as and when required.

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduate and / or other relevant professional qualification.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • An aptitude for credit assessment, financial analysis and credit writing, with the capacity to promptly identify key issues and risks.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills with good problem solving, negotiation & influencing abilities. The candidate should also have a pragmatic approach and strong commercial awareness.
  • Energy, drive and initiative to manage workload to challenging deadlines, a committed self-starter who takes ownership of tasks.
  • Capacity to build alliances and relationships with other lenders, management teams and equity sponsors & advisors.
  • Strong team player with the capability to both work independently and as part of a team.

Experience:

  • Must demonstrate either previous portfolio management experience or proven capacity to manage transactions / customer lending relationships independently.
  • 3 years+ cashflow lending experience preferably to businesses / corporates.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Some knowledge of financial modelling and loan documentation, desirable but not essential.
