Digital Operations is responsible for managing and developing on the technical operations infrastructure which supports both manual and robotic banking operations processing for Bank of Ireland Group. This infrastructure is built on a number of core components - Blue Prism RPA, SQL Server, HCL Toscana Workflow (T1 & T2), C #Data Bridge code, Amazon Web Services, EngageHub SMS platform and Tableau analytics.

The opportunity:

A small technical team within the Digital Operations function supports and develops the data bridge C# components and manages and develops the SQL Server databases. This team also has responsibility with delivering the next wave of innovation within Digital Operations looking at Machine learning & AI tools available in the market and how these technologies could be utilised.

Location: This role is based in the Operations Centre in Cabinteely, D18.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Head of Technology in oversight of all Change and Support activities
  • Identify and translate system requirements into a prescribed architecture and design that meet business requirements and are aligned to Digital Operations architecture standards and principles
  • Provide strategic thinking, solutions and roadmaps while driving architectural guidance for the Digital Technology portfolio
  • Maintain adherence to architecture guiding principles, reference architectures and standards
  • Identifying business opportunities for potential solution development efforts and support portfolio in development strategic plans
  • Ensure architectural adherence through blueprint and design reviews and by conducting reviews throughout the development cycle
  • Assist in the remediation of application stability and performance
  • Adopt and communicate new concepts, ideas, techniques, best practices and technology assistance
  • Perform project level design, debug and performance analysis
  • Responsible for the development and production of best practices and guidelines for supported technologies
  • The candidate must work with various internal and external technical resources to drive consensus on technology solutions
  • Is responsible to source, lead, and manage a team of Project Architects to ensure the realization of project goals
  • Work with vendors and product management areas to establish required infrastructure and frameworks
  • Evaluation of multiple vendors and selection process to find solutions matching the organization`s strategic direction
  • Designing, building and maintain data `bridges` which take data from various front end challenges and standardise into consumable XML data formats.
  • Designing, building and maintain data `extractors which take data from primarily email, XML and other sources and extract customer request data for processing.

Essential Requirements:

Skills & Experience:

  • Candidate must have 10+ years of experience in system design and development, with recent emphasis on complex solutions crossing several business areas and a record of demonstrating long term strategic vision for organizations and execution plans to implement the vision
  • Team player. Ability to work within a team and deliver as a group
  • A track record in the successful delivery and support of software solutions
  • Understanding of financial services an advantage
  • Good communication skills with the ability to present technical details to a non-technical audience.
  • Good written skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation
  • The ability to work with a structured and methodical approach, combined with an enquiring mind.
  • An aptitude for problem solving, with the ability to take a logical route to the source of an error.
  • A self-starter who delivers high quality work and can adapt to new challenges, either on their own or as part of a team.
  • The ideal candidate is experienced on multiple hardware and software environments and be comfortable with complex heterogeneous systems.
  • The person should possess an ability to share and communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to people at various levels within the organization in a clear and concise manner relevant to each of the groups
  • Must have expert level competency in a technology area and demonstrated strong expertise in two or more additional technology areas
  • Broad system-level expertise across multiple computing platforms and technologies is required, along with the ability to influence technical direction at the department level and across multiple IT projects or technology areas
  • Experience in working with offshore vendors and teams
  • Experience of different development methodologies, testing tools, code repositories all an advantage
  • Familiar with Microsoft Technologies (SQL Server and .Net Framework, C#, ASP.Net) and Cloud Technologies (AWS & Azure)


  • 3rd level qualification
