Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking manages some of the Bank`s largest and most prestigious domestic and international names. Corporate Banking Ireland & UK is responsible for large corporations including plc`s; multinationals; financial institutions/IFSC groups; semi-states and other large companies. We also manage an intermediary network from where structured transactions are sourced in collaboration with the Retail Network.

Each team within Corporate Banking Ireland is responsible for aspects of Business Development and origination with responsibility for identification, structuring, detailed assessment and due diligence of new business opportunities.

The Director is responsible for leading a team dedicated to business development calling program / coordinating with Group units to maximise business development opportunities and provide transaction support. The key elements of the role encompass implementing the CBI Business Development structured calling program / working effectively with with Regional and County Business development teams / supporting transactions typically in mid-market sector incorporating risk assessment, sales and cross-selling of Group products.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the business development agenda via a coordinated and structured calling program.
  • Oversee calling program and working closely with other Group units to maximise business opportunities from variety of sources.
  • Lead and initiate new business origination in line with the Group`s core business and credit and risk appetite.
  • Proactively lead origination, structuring and execution of cashflow transactions into appropriate debt packages for internal consideration.
  • Maintain robust presence in the market via internal and external introducers and ensure all origination is conducted in line with Corporate Banking and Group standards, the Group`s/ Division`s Risk strategy and appetite and any external requirements.
  • Develop quality and collaborative relationships with both internal & external customers and stakeholders and ensuring appropriate external profiling of the Bank of Ireland Group`s offering.
  • Communicate effectively the businesses strategy, vision, values and objectives.
  • Lead, develop and motivate a team of engaged and driven Business Development professionals at all times ensuring the team is appropriately resourced with the optimum skill-set and capability to reflect the diverse nature of the business.
  • Add value to significant Business and Cross-functional Group projects, initiatives and committees, as required.
  • Ensure the highest credit standards are met while having a hands-on approach to Operational Risk
  • Contribute to the overall direction of the Corporate Banking Ireland business.

Essential Qualifications

  • 15+ years financial and commercial experience
  • Graduate or other related professional qualification

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop relationships and to work across different teams and divisions.
  • Proven track record of setting, implementing and achieving strategic objectives to deliver new business success.
  • Leader with experience of forming a successful team, focussed on a clear goal and delivering on business objectives.
  • Demonstrate strong business and commercial acumen with high financial literacy/ thorough knowledge of cashflow lending and financial markets.
  • Decisive, with good listening skills, objectivity, independence and an ability to quickly articulate business strategy, lending perspectives and proposals to Credit Committee.
  • Capacity to build relationships, work with and network successfully with existing and prospective customers, third party business influencers and introducers in addition to key internal partners across the wider Bank of Ireland Group.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, influencing & business development skills.
  • Energy and drive with the desire to achieve superior performance.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead, manage and motivate people consistent with the BoI Group leadership behaviours.
  • Proven ability to work and co-ordinate with internal CB (Property, LAF, Origination) and other arms of the Bank (Global Markets, Retail Bank, Business Banking), together with advisors and influencers, to ensure that confidence is instilled in these parties in terms of the professionalism that is required to proactively manage and grow `the book`.
  • Personal credibility both internally and externally.
