Description of business unit

The AML Risk Manager role is part of the 1st line of defence Financial Crime Risk Centre of Excellence (CoE) Team within the UK Operations division of Retail UK. The team is accountable for the management of all Financial Crime (Fraud, Anti-Money Laundering [AML] {including Sanctions and Counter terrorism risk}], Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Conflicts of Interest and Gifts & Hospitality) activity for the 1stline of defence/BOIUK business areas. The team provides recommendations/guidance, project support, service oversight and operational investigation to UK product areas.

The CoE also conducts a number of Operational activities including, but not limited to the processing / sign-off for all new & existing customer Enhanced Due Diligence cases and Fraud Investigations. We strive to support the business to mitigate financial crime risk and implement regulatory requirements enabling us to serve our customers brilliantly!

Purpose of the Role

Working across all BOIUK products to support and lead on developing processes and controls, to monitor the efficiency of key metrics to lead "AML" (including Sanctions and Counter terrorism risk), thus ensuring the implementation of and compliance with all BOIUK, Group Policies, Legal & Regulatory obligations and associated internal standards across BOIUK. As well as ensuring that all Business Divisions are aware of the key AML risks impacting them.

The role will also hold accountability of leading teams of AML Specialists.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise, advice and guidance on AML risk and issues
  • Ensure an effective AML risk control framework is in place to support BOIUK
  • Review and interpret data in a timely manner and make recommendations as required
  • Lead, support and coordinate any issues in line with framework requirements
  • Ensure the team has continuous development in AML matters
  • Interpret AML regulatory change and work with the business to implement appropriate controls
  • Provide sign off on business unit policy and procedures and making decisions on appropriateness of AML crime controls
  • Provide appropriate Management Information & Reporting into relevant governance forums (including Risk Committee)
  • Perform quality assurance over the process & controls within the team and perform thematic quality assurance of the business areas
  • Establish/build or directly represent the Bank with critical external forums

What is the opportunity?

The successful candidate will support the BOI UK strategic growth plans and our continued focus to identify and lead existing and emerging AML risks across the BOI UK product range.

Assist in leading all aspects of both BOI Group and external Tier 1 & 2 suppliers.

You will work within a team helping to define BoI UK processes to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and key metrics lead AML risk for BOIUK.

Assist the delivery of strategic change projects and be accountable for advising and guiding the business on AML risks facilitating regulatory compliance and controlling financial losses.

You will be required to build positive effective relationships with key partners within BOI UK and BOI Group, as well as external partners and 3rd party suppliers. Some travel may be required, when appropriate, to UK or ROI based offices.

Please note you must live in the jurisdiction for the business to which you are contracted.

This job is Belfast (DSS) based with an element of flexible working from home arrangements in line with team charter. Additional travel to other BOI sites will be required for in person collaboration. Exact frequency to be agreed with line manager.

Essential Qualifications

Group Standard 5 GCSEs or equivalent.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of three years extensive experience across a AML risk and AML Operational area for either consumer & business products
  • A willingness to study (if not held) towards industry qualifications (e.g. ICA International Diploma in AML)
  • A strong understanding of practical experience in AML regulations risks, controls and issues with experience of leading AML risks, controls and issues within financial services
  • A self-starter used to working autonomously within a demanding environment
  • Ability to provide intellectual accuracy to business controls monitoring and risk assessment, development of business solutions and decision making

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Commercial and organisation awareness
  • Quality Assurance/testing environment experience
  • Experience in the management of AML incidents
  • Previous experience of supporting regulator, GIA or 2nd line assurance reviews
