Group Resilience & Business Continuity Manager

The Group Business Continuity Management function is responsible for developing, maintaining and maturing the Group-wide BCM Framework, which encompasses high availability/resilience, incident and crisis management, business continuity management, and IT service continuity management. The Group BCM function:

  • Coordinates the continuity and crisis management response to critical incidents and crisis events;
  • Develops and maintains the Group`s BCM Strategy;
  • Leads on development and implementation of the BCM Framework, tooling and methodologies across the Group;
  • Performs resilience and continuity analysis and planning, in particular in relation to the Group`s Mission Critical Services;
  • Provides advice and support to stakeholders across the Group;
  • Leads on Group-wide training and exercising;
  • Coordinates governance oversight across the BCM Framework.

The opportunity:

The Group Resilience & Business Continuity Manager acts in a leadership capacity to lead and drive forwardthe implementation of the Group`s Business Continuity programme, working alongside the Group Crisis Manager and related specialist teams (including those focussing on Workplace Recovery and IT Service Continuity Management), ensuring proportionate identification, assessment, monitoring, management,mitigation and reporting of business disruption risks.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Management:

  • Coordinate and lead the Business Continuity response to critical incidents and crisis events.

Strategy and Governance:

  • Develop and manage the execution of the Group`s Resilience & Business Continuity strategy and programme, to continuously improve, embed and mature the Group`s resilience and continuity capability, reporting on progress and the Bank`s risk profile to appropriate governance bodies and regulatory authorities;
  • Develop and maintain the Group`s Business Continuity Management policy, standards, frameworks, guidelines, tooling, training and awareness materials, in line with internal and external governance, regulatory and industry reporting requirements for Resilience & Business Continuity;
  • Perform analysis on aspects of Resilience& Business Continuity to generate insights to inform strategic and risk-based decision-making;
  • Produce, maintain and monitor management information and key risk indicators.

Cross-Divisional Engagement:

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the cross-divisional network of Resilience & Business Continuity professionals in the Bank, and in particular drive the agenda for the cross-divisional `BCM Working Group` forum;
  • Work closely with specialist teams (Work Place Recovery, IT Service Continuity Management, Crisis Management, Assurance, Group Operational Risk), divisional leads, and other stakeholders (e.g. Heads of Business, Supplier Relationship Owners), to coordinate Resilience& Business Continuity activities across the Group including the implementation of procedures and appropriate controls;
  • Prepare the Group to appropriately withstand, manage and recover from disruption events, ensuring alignment in enterprise wide contingency strategies;
  • Develop the Resilience& Business Continuity assessment methodologies and management/ validation activities in relation to the Group`s Mission Critical Services;
  • As an experienced technical subject matter expert, provide expert advice and support in relation to aspects of Resilience& Business Continuity to stakeholders across the Group;
  • Act as a change agent, nurturing a resilience and continuity culture, and driving a programme of continuous improvement and excellence across the Group.

People Management:

  • Lead, motivate, develop and manage a team of resilience and business continuity professionals.

Essential Requirements:

Skills & Experience:

  • Significant experience within Resilience and/or Business Continuity function of a large organisation, preferable within the financial sector;
  • Deep technical understanding of (and first-hand experience applying) resilience and business continuity standards, methodologies, tooling, and regulatory requirements;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to work effectively with and influence the actions of stakeholder and credibility to influence senior management and the wider internal and external stakeholders;
  • Significant experience in managing and developing teams - working with geographically dispersed teams as well as leadership of `virtual` teams;
  • Ability to bring intellectual rigour to analysis, risk assessments, solution development and decision-making;
  • Confident, articulate and independent-minded approach. Ability to deal with both the `big picture` and the finer detail.


  • Leaving certificate - minimum of 5 passes (grade D or above) at Ordinary Level, which must includeEnglish and Maths, or equivalent or superseding qualification

Desirable Requirements:

  • 3rd level degree in a relevant discipline
  • Relevant academic and professional qualification(s);
  • Membership of professional body (e.g. BCI, DRII or EPS).
