Purpose of the Role

  • Accountable for project Solution Architecture and Design capability delivery and maturity, ensuring consistency with defined reference architectures and quality of solution delivery supporting the strategic aims of the Bank.

Key Accountabilities

Operating Model and Processes

  • Accountable for project Solution Archiecture and Design capability delivery and maturity, covering, but not limted to: structures, roles, process and sourcing
  • Manages overall Solution Design either directly by Bank with support from 3rdparties or led by 3rd parties with Bank oversight and assurance
  • Works with IT Technology colleagues to design and deliver solutions which increase efficiency, reduce cost and support the strategic direction of the Bank
  • Works within the design standards and frameworks set by the IT Architecture function, taking overall responsibility for maintaining the integrity of our IT architecture by making sure all proposed IT delivery programmes and projects comply with the overall architectural blueprint/reference architectures
  • Works with the appropriete Design Authority/Architecture Review Board to ensure consistency and quality of high level designs and solution architectures
  • Works with IT Architecture to integrate new technologies, solutions, and delivery approaches
  • Motivates and develops the Solution Design team to ensure delivery of the required standards of excellence in solution architecture and design and support the continuing personal and professional development of all team members
  • Manages the Solution Design team to ensure that resources (people, technological, etc.) and processes are appropriate to the required standards of delivery, cost-efficiency, best practice and performance.

Solution Architecture and Design - Engineering & Delivery Lifecycle

  • Is accountable for the Solution Architecture and Design components of Application delivery into the Change organisation, either driven through business need, or as part of Techncal Currency portfolio management
  • Responsible for project solution architecture and design within the Application change roadmap covering new solutions, upgrades, enhansements and the respective integration, legacy or API led.
  • Works with IT Vendor Managementto agreethe contracting and commercial models to ensure the correct commercial and operational model are in place with partners in support of solution architecture and design
  • Works closely with all 3rdparty suppliers of application and integration services to ensure that demand for solution architecture and design is fully understood by all suppliers in support of the change portfolio requirements
  • Manages 3rdparty supplier seolution architecture and design delivery against the build plan (time, cost and quality)
  • Works with 3rdparties to ensrue all solution design, functional and technical specifications for all application development and integration services delivery work is in place
  • Ensures that all parties update all technical documentation to reflect changes being made
  • Ensures that all solution designs enable all parties to manage code transport through environments via BoI processes and governance
  • Ensures regular reporting on solution architecture and design status
  • Works closely with all development partners on defect resolution during development, Testing and any intensive care/"warranty" period.

Management Accountability

  • Works with the Engineering & Delivery function and broader Change and IT teams to ensure appropriate planning, reporting, governance, resource and financial allocations are in place to delivery the Banks strategic aims
  • Works with the IT Application Risk and Compliance Manager to ensure risks are defined, managed and governed in line with BoI methodology and processes
  • Works with the BoI Test Lead to define strategies, roadmaps, methods and tooling
  • Works withIT Vendor Managementfunction to agree the contracting and commercial models with strategic partners including the measures and performancetracking
  • Supports the Technical project management competency as part of the wider PM competency (led by Change)

Essential Qualifications

3rd level degree in related discipline

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Deep technical experience and track record across all aspects of the delivery and management of solutioj architecture and design within the application development lifecycle
  • Deep technical experience and track record across all aspects of architecture and solution design
  • Management and delivery of solution designs within a complex Business environment, including leading and influencing substantial numbers of non-direct reports and multuple 3rdparty suppliers
  • Delivery and management of solution architecture and designs in a highly regulated business sector
  • Deep understanding of IT Industry best practice - Programme/Project Management, Systems Development Lifecycle and Service provision
  • Practical experience of a range of delivery models including Agile and DevOps
  • People Management - leadership and management skills, influencing and relationship building
  • Stakeholder Management - effective management of internal and external stakeholder interests across a complex organisational structure, including partnerships
  • Supplier Management - integration of suppliers in the delivery of integrated test solutions
  • Risk management - understanding of the delivery risks faced by IT delivery and the controls in place to manage & mitigate these risks
  • Credibility and confidence working at senior levels in the organisation; including C-suite executives
  • Having managed and matured a team of Solution Architects within a large outsourced environment on multi-million-pound programmes
  • Capable of being a thought leader and part of the leadership team
  • A broad awareness of key technologies, relevant market trends and wider IT architecture
  • Extensive experience of large-scale IT change programmes and delivery demonstrating tangible business benefit
