Description of business unit

Group Information Security (GIS) is a diverse, collaborative team with multiple skills. With global cyber threats constantly evolving, the team is essential to protecting one of the Group's most important and valuable assets: Information.

GIS not only protect the security of the Bank but also enable colleagues to develop secure ways of working and to make secure choices both in and outside of the office.

They do this through a variety of activities, including:

  • using technology to supervise existing and emerging cyber threats
  • detecting and preventing cyber attacks
  • engaging with business units to guide them in their decision making (for example when introducing new products, services and vendors to the Group)
  • explaining information security in simple terms
  • interacting with colleagues to set the standard on security awareness so that it is at the forefront of everyone's mind.

All underpinned by guidelines, standards, policies and security controls crafted to help protect Bank, employee and customer information - and a passion to keep our colleagues, communities and customers safe.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Principal Security Architect, the Lead Cloud Security Architect will be a key SME contributing to evolution the Enterprise Security Architecture Framework to ensure its "Cloud Fit" helping drive improvement to better empower collaboration and enablement of new ways of working.

The cloud security architect will work closely with the cloud centre of excellence and other key partners as an SME for security architecture within the group. The chosen individual will also be a key resource for other architects within security and the wider group to collaborate closely with on specific cloud related topics and areas of concern for additional perspective and advise.

The chosen individual will be pragmatic with the ability to give strong direction back to the customer with a key focus on security to ensure decisions can be made in a risk aware and measured manner.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely with other key SMEs and customers to craft and implement secure solutions aligned with the group Enterprise Security Framework
  • Identify and build reusable patterns to help drive consistency across designs
  • Play a key role in contributing to the roadmap for the implementation of the cloud target architecture
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Enterprise Security Architecture Framework to ensure its "Cloud Fit"
  • Act as a key contributing member of BOI architectural governance fora on behalf of GIS when required
  • Work closely with partners in other enterprise and IT architecture areas to both build alignment and to collaborate optimally
  • Work with key areas within IT to understand the Cloud adoption roadmap
  • Work with other GIS teams to embed new capability and to ensure both architectural and operational outcomes are realised
  • Keep up to date with technology advancements in the area of Cloud security, and provide education/updates to internal partners on anything of current or future relevance
  • Be an authority and advocate for cloud security within the organisation, through effective relationship building and influencing when required
  • Advise and contribute to cyber strategy development in the area of Cloud security capability
  • Contribute to the cyber risk agenda within GIS in the area of cloud security risk

Essential Qualifications

3rd level degree in a computing or other technical field, or equivalent experience. AWS and Azure architectural certification preferred.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges with a key focus on security and risk.
  • Strong Expertise across data centre deployments and technologies to ensure a rounded understanding of non cloud workloads and technologies.

Experience in designing, implementing and delivering security for cloud native, distributed computing and architectural solutions with a principle of "Secure by Design"

  • Expertise in performing Threat Modeling, generating security architectural requirements to software development and product teams
  • Expertise around infrastructure as code deployments with specific knowledge around cloud formation and terraformpreferablee.
  • Knowledge and understanding of key differences between most popular cloud provider solutions and cloud orchestration tools (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
  • Expertise around DevOps workflows and tooling, experience with (Jenkins, Code Commit, Cloud9, Ansible preferable).
  • Expertise in Cloud Computing technologies, scripting languages (Python, RoR, etc), integrating 3rd party monitoring tools, encryption tools and standard methodologies.
  • Implementation experience with enterprise security solutions such as WAF, IPS, DDOS solutions, and SIEM.
  • Solid understanding of cloud computing technologies and workload transition challenges
  • Familiarity with archive, backup/recovery and business continuity processes in distributed operations
  • Expertise with security tooling implementation across SAST, DAST and RASP offerings beneficial

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

SANS or any other equivalent security certifications. CISSP (or working towards) beneficial, as well as Cloud security certifications (or working towards). Networking certifications (e.g. CCNA) would also be desirable but not crucial.
