Description of business unit

The Infrastructure Operations Team role is "Enable the Service" through driving our partners in providing the Bank with the Technology required to run the business, securing the Customers and Banks data, improving stability and remaining current in order to provide a premier service.

Purpose of the Role

TheNetwork Security Virtualisation Engineer(VMWare Cloud Networks) will coordinate the efforts of Bank and vendor technical teams to manage the service delivery and maintenance of the new Core Banking Systems Cloud Networking Infrastructure.

This is an operational role working with our key service providers.

To fulfil this role, there is a requirement to have strong experience inworking in a multi-vendors environment. This is to give assurances that services are being delivered effectively in order to safeguard the business and improve the stability and delivery of this core service.

In addition to the ongoing operational responsibilities the holder of this role must also seek to plan effectively and optimize live operations to maximise quality and minimise risk. These responsibilities will require extensive stakeholder and vendor management skills to effectively influence others as well as drive change within the holder's direct area of responsibility.

Key Accountabilities

  • Accountable for the implementation of the VMware NSX security platform within a VMWare based cloud infrastructure.
  • Provide security and network oversight for SDN networking and firewall services.
  • Ensure strong Governance with vendor service delivery team and key customer stakeholders
  • Ensuring network reliability, scalability and availability through well-planned and implemented solutions while promoting automation of network deployment and configuration.
  • Management and oversight of our key infrastructure partner in maintaining, and supporting virtual networks based upon NSX/NSX-T.
  • Effectively escalating issues where necessary to Infrastructure Operations / Technology Services leadership to ensure that quality standards are delivered
  • Acting as a technical SME on CBS Virtual Networking Infrastructure for the Bank and sharing that expertise as required within the Infrastructure Operations Team.
  • Driving continual improvement across both Bank and vendor teams to ensure ongoing optimisation of performance of services
  • Maintain & monitor standards, controls, processes and solutions, to minimise business and IT risk
  • Drive through identified Risks to closure including reporting of progress against each Risk assigned within your area of responsibility
  • Ensure full compliance with all Group, Legal and Regulatory requirements and standards
  • Full involvement during Internal / External Audit cycle that are carried out periodically relating to Infrastructure
  • Support remediation of Audit Actions working closely with Internal teams as required.

Essential Skills & Experience

5+ years' experience to include:

  • Experience in dealing with multiple outsource vendors
  • Strong working experience in cloud support / design roles
  • As a professional VMware NSX Engineer, you should be an expert on the software defined network with the VMware EHC Cloud perception, Hybrid network services, NSX development and operations, and Public/Private Cloud services.
  • Manage vendors/suppliers for the day-to-day health, security, and performance of all software defined networking components.
  • Ensure our vendors/suppliers optimise performance, clustering and SDN capabilities to scale with growth of the infrastructure environment
  • Drive and assist where required troubleshooting an enterprise level infrastructure, solving business impacting issues and incidents.
  • Strong working knowledge of logical load balancers, firewalls, switches delivered on NSX technologies.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to innovate and to improve the SDN.
  • Communicate clearly with business users and project managers
  • Demonstrable experience of IT service management and service delivery
  • Demonstrable experience in discussing technical issues with people at all levels (Customers, Vendors, Service & Business Partners and other Technology Services teams)
  • Strong customer focused background and commercial awareness
  • Process improvement experience with a focus on continued streamlining of processes.
  • Proven ability to present service improvement initiatives to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of openstack tooling (VIO/Ansible/etc...) and components (Neutron, Nova, Glance...)
    - Strong knowledge of micro segmentation and segregation technologies and concepts.
    - Exposure to containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker...)
    - Excellent oral, written, verbal and technical/business communications skills
    - Strong working knowledge of networking concepts: DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, Routing, VLAN, VXLAN, GENEVE.
