Operational Senior Data Protection Lead - 3 month FTC

This is an operational role located in the first line within the organisation. Its purpose is to ensure operational compliance throughout the organisation, for example in HR, audit, second line, IT, facilities management, compliance and therefore it is not restricted only to externally focused functions. The individual's primary focus is to ensure that the organisation meets it controller obligations and to provide senior leadership to colleagues across the organisation to enable them to comply with data protection legislation and regulatory expectations and implement the requirements in practice.

This is offered as a 3 month fixed term contract. This is not offered as a day rate. Flexible working arrangements are available.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead on the development and implementation of the organisation's data protection and privacy operational programme of work to ensure the organisation is compliant with the legislation, internal policies and procedures
  • Ensure that business areas understand and comply with data protection legislation and have the necessary procedures and monitoring in place
  • Keep up to date with technical knowledge and provide guidance on the practical implementation of any regulatory changes/guidance/supervisory and/or EDBP decisions or case law, for example the ICO\'s Children\'s Code
  • Deliver training and awareness where required to Data Protection Champions and others
  • Provide subject matter advice to operational colleagues, including Data Protection Champions who act as the local experts
  • Where Data Protection Champions/local contacts are unable to, advise on issues arising out of frontline compliance matters, such as data subject requests, potential data incidents, data protection impact assessments or, where appropriate, to seek advice from the UK Data Protection Officer ("DPO")
  • Undertake compliance monitoring and gap analysis, working with Data Protection Champions and others, to develop an overview of compliance and then agree a plan to address any gaps
  • Regularly liaise with the UK Data Protection Officer to ensure the DPO is aware of all processing activities and any compliance issues and report as required

What is the opportunity?

To leadon the development and implementation of the organisation's data protection and privacy operational programme of work to ensure the organisation is compliant with the legislation, internal policies and procedures for a period of three months

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience of quality, risk management and compliance processes with strong data protection knowledge
  • Significant knowledge of UK and EU Data Protection & Privacy law and how it applies in practice
  • Experience of developing and delivering a bespoke programme of work to deliver compliance
  • Proficient in programme management, including the ability to challenge and oversee work largely devolved to business areas
  • Strong planning, organisation and analytical skills
  • Ability to translate regulatory guidance into practical guidance that can be implemented across the organisation
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with collaborative approach
  • Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection would be desirable but not essential

Role location is flexible within the UK but you must have the right to work in the UK.
