Purpose of the Role:

This is a key role within the Strategy, Digital and Innovation team, reporting to the Head of Digital Channels (Consumer or Business). The Product Owner is a core member of an agile project delivery team and represents both the interests of the Business and Customer. They must have a compelling product vision and roadmap that is executable, capable of delivering business value and motivates the team and customers. They are empowered by the business sponsor of an initiative to convey the vision and work to the team on a daily basis and are accountable for the outcomes delivered and managing the workload of the scrum team, including both technical and business resources.

They must have a clear perspective on what`s required to achieve the right commercial outcomes for the business and ensure that stakeholders are kept fully up to date and expectations are managed. The Product Owner must be very pragmatic, have proven product, project and people management experience and be capable of demonstrating servant leadership skills to empower the team to achieve the best outcome for the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for the medium term product roadmap
  • Be a subject matter expert in their domain and have a solid understanding of company organisation and strategic goals
  • Communicate with Product Management and other stakeholders as necessary on a regular basis to provide feedback on progress of implementation of product vision
  • Ensure budget is in place for each Product Iteration (10 week cycle) + agreed with Product Management
  • Work closely with an agile delivery team to deliver features
  • Maintain prioritized backlogs and ensure that teams have a clear understanding of what they are developing and the value it delivers to the customer
  • Derive the functional requirements and features from the business case
  • Be accountable for the timely availability of requirements for projects ensuring delivery teams can develop software as efficiently as possible or deliver other defined project outcomes
  • Collaborate with UX to ensure successful design and development of product improvements
  • Attend all scrum/relevant ceremonies
  • Define iterations and stories in collaboration with the Agile team
  • Establish the story acceptance criteria, and accepts stories into the baseline
  • Accept iteration increments
  • Be responsible for maximising ROI of outcomes and alignment to business objectives
  • Determine Minimum Viable Product (MVP), maximize the value of the product and ensuring the value of work performed by the team
  • Trade off scope against team capacity, time and/or budget constraints
  • Work closely with the Scrum Master and the squad members on sprint planning and defines metrics and success criteria
  • Be a key decision maker in the Agile squad and has delegated authority to make decisions relating to the defined outcomes

Essential Qualification:

  • Relevant degree (Level 8 on NFQ)

Essential Skills and Expertise:

  • Proven experience as Product Owner/Business Analyst (Kanban/Agile experience is preferred)
  • Certified Product Owner (SAFe desirable)
  • Detailed understanding of Agile Delivery Methodologies (e.g. SCRUM, SAFe)
  • Familiarity with key Agile Delivery tools (e.g. JIRA)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate and present to all levels within the organisation
  • Experience using a customer centric approach to build products
  • Excellent relationship building & collaboration skills
  • Proven and demonstrable decision making skills
  • Proven and demonstrable ability to breakdown business cases into stories
  • Proven record of willingness to take the initiative and adopt a proactive approach
  • Ability to influence cross functional teams and facilitate conversations to agree direction
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical timelines in a fast paced environment
  • Understanding and appreciation of Bank IT platforms and software
