Description of business unit

This role sits within the Governance & Capability Unit under the BOI UK Commercial Director. The CBUK Risk Partner Teams perform a 'first line of defence' role across Consumer Banking products in the UK, providing advice and guidance to the various Business Units on managing their risks, including escalating risk and control issues to senior management.

This role will manage the team and support UK Mortgages Business Units.

Purpose of the Role

As a member of the CBUK Risk Management Team, the individual is required to build positive, effective relationships with key stakeholders within Business Units, developing their understanding of compliance, regulatory and operational risk matters and influencing decisions to ensure compliant behaviour.

Expertise, advice and guidance will be provided on a wide range of regulatory issues to enable Business Units to understand and fulfil their obligations under the various and complex legislation / codes of practice that governs the way in which it conducts business. The individual is required to ensure guidance is provided in a manner that is proactive, pragmatic and enabling by themselves and their Team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a team to provide expertise, advice and guidance on regulatory standards impacting the Mortgages business to enable them to understand and fulfil their obligations.
  • Manage and build positive relationships with key stakeholders within the mortgages business developing understanding of risk and compliance matters.
  • Working across the various business areas comprising the Mortgages business, influencing decisions to ensure compliant behaviour
  • Point of expertise for the business in relation to the effective resolution of issues to mitigate risk and exposure.
  • The Risk & Compliance Manager will possess excellent compliance management experience from within a financial services environment, ideally within retail banking and risk & compliance. You will be a self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 3 years financial services regulatory experience with a sound understanding of the regulatory regimes governing Retail UK
  • Experience of dealing with complex problems
  • Able to communicate with people at all levels of the organisation, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to analyse and interpret regulatory documentation
  • Commercial and organisational awareness.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • 3 years' experience in people management
  • Certificate in Financial Planning Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Experience in a Compliance and Risk role
