Description of Business Unit

The Security Operations & Engineering function within Group Information Security provides a range of Security Operations Services to the Group. These services currently are:

- Vulnerability Assessment - identifying security weaknesses on Group IT systems, assessing these weaknesses and communicating them to the relevant systems.

- Security Monitoring - monitoring feeds from multiple monitoring sources, identifying events that meet certain criteria, performing pre-agreed activity on these events or escalating them to the relevant Incident response team.

- Security Engineering - configuration and support of various specialist security toolsets and solutions to GIS and Group IT systems.

The successful candidate will work within Security Engineering, contributing to the development and delivery of Security Engineering services within GIS and to the wider Bank of Ireland estate.

Purpose of the Role

The Security Engineer will be responsible for providing technical and operational analysis, technical support and troubleshooting when required for selected security controls operated by Security Engineering team. This role will be responsible for implementing and maintaining new technical functionalities that support Group Information Security strategy and other new services identified by management.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, support and maintain Security Engineering services.
  • Ensure the proper documentation, processes and controls. inventories are populated, maintained and operated correctly to enable the Security Engineering services to deliver best-in-class services to the estate.
  • Identify and address any improvements required to remediate gaps in service coverage.
  • Engage with and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders both within the Group and externally.

Essential Qualifications

  • Relevant University Degree, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant professional certifications or technical qualifications in IS and/or IT areas
  • Knowledge and experience of services in the Security Engineering context
  • Knowledge and experience of enterprise-class support

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Firm understanding of IT security principles and practices
  • Good technical knowledge of IT security systems and controls
  • Background in IT operations, with particular reference to hands-on experience
  • Good technical knowledge of Windows and Linux enterprise environments
  • Experience with hardware and software technical support
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build productive working relationships with others
  • Open attitude to change
  • Customer Service focus
