Description of Business Unit:

Group Internal Audit (GIA) is on a journey towards a digital future, where automation, technology and data will act as key enablers to both what we do, and how we do it. The Data Science & Analytics function within GIA is responsible for the development and execution of GIA's 'Digital & Data' strategy and digital transformation roadmap (DTR), to enable GIA to embed technology, data science and automation techniques at the heart of its operating model.

Purpose of the Role:

This is a cross functional individual contributor role to develop sophisticated, multi-component data analysis, insight and reporting solutions to realise value from both the Group's and external data. You will contribute towards GIA's multi-year digital transformation strategy and will support the rollout of key capability and training initiatives across the division, utilising Agile principles and methodologies, designed to increase our overall level of digital and data capability across GIA.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Execute hypothesis testing and exploratory analysis projects for senior management to drive business insights and proactive risk management across the Group.
  • Design, develop and implement management information solutions to present data driven insights to senior management within GIA, and across the Group.
  • Design, develop and implement end-to-end (E2E) sophisticated data transformation processes to unify data from multiple internal and external sources.
  • Support the design, development and implementation of Enterprise level data science and insight solutions as needed.
  • Contribute towards the 'Digital & Data' strategy (and underpinning initiatives) and the wider Data Science & Analytics function through the identification of new value data exploitation and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams within Group Internal Audit, and across the wider Group to refine recommendations and develop next best action plans for risk management.
  • Promote awareness of data science, emerging industry trends (incl. regulation) and a digital future across Group Internal Audit.
  • Contribute to a creative culture centred on an agile environment, value prioritisation and design thinking.

What is the Opportunity?

You will work as part of a dynamic and results-oriented team, and be a driving force behind digital transformation in GIA. You will gain significant exposure to hypothesis testing, exploratory analysis, management information solution development and deep dive exploratory analysis. You will also have the opportunity to support the development of data science solutions end to end, leveraging applied statistics and supervised/unsupervised machine learning methodologies, on both structured and unstructured datasets.

This job can be done anywhere in the Republic of Ireland with the primary office location as Dublin to which travel will be required for in person collaboration. Exact frequency to be agreed with manager.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in extracting value from data through hypothesis testing, deep dive analysis and design, development and implementation of management information and insights solutions.
  • Proven experience in using SQL and Python to acquire, transform and extract insights from large scale complex datasets.
  • Experience in designing, developing and implementing end to end (E2E) transformation processes, to unify data from multiple internal and external data sources.
  • High level of discretion, capable of dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Solid attention to detail and high levels of accuracy and a strong team ethic and flexible approach in order to meet challenging goals and deadlines.

Desirable Qualifications Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of the Cloudera Hadoop platform, and associated analytical tools (i.e. pySpark).
  • Experience in the end to end development of data science solutions in a real world business environment would be advantageous but not essential.
