Description of business unit

The NI & Partnership Distribution business is the three core business units, bringing together all our direct to consumer businesses in Northern Ireland, and through our partnerships with the AA and Post Office. The Products & Solutions team is a critical component of this business unit, and exists to design, develop and maintain market leading products that meet the everyday banking needs of personal current account and business customers under the NI franchise. It is responsible for achieving great customer outcomes with products, services and experiences that truly meet the needs of customers, within the framework of compliance and regulation. As the focal point of a critical range of activities and disciplines, it is pivotal in our mission to transform the bank.

Purpose of the Role

To support theBusiness Capital Oversight Lead in the provision of Model Management services to BBGB&NI to discharge IRB model owners responsibilities, and in the maintenance of a robust Model Risk Framework for BOIUK.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support model owner in the discharge of model owners responsibilities per Credit IRB Model Policy and standards including documentation, development, performance monitoring, calibration and validation;
  • Lead for BBGB/NI on Support group led initiatives, such as calibration reviews, through data collection and analysis
  • Preparation and co-ordination of Credit / BU representatives and Model owners in advance of Quarterly Reviews, Expert Panels, Steering Meetings and Validation
  • Monitoring and reporting of the performance of the Non Retail Credit Risk Models used within BUs in conjunction with NRMD to Senior Management and act as secretary to the Model Review Forum.
  • Ensure that Model Performance Standards are met and remedial actions completed
  • Supporting the validation process including responsibility for addressing ICU recommendations/actions, specifically where they relate to model inputs and/or model use.
  • Compilation of ad-hoc data and information requests from regulatory authorities (CBoI, FSA) and other relevant parties (EBA, rating agencies etc.)
  • Provide agreed ongoing ad-hoc education sessions plus risk based presentations to Model Owners, Lenders and Credit Unit as required.
  • Custodian of BU specific rating policies and documentation e.g. BU Probability of Default (PD) rating and pricing procedures including governance and updates.
  • Support the Model Owner on monitoring Data Quality within the Rating system/Models and wider BIPS inputs to ensure tolerance levels and Business Unit/Group MI requirements are met.
  • Key role in ensuring appropriate use of pricing and rating systems by way of suitable MI, analyses and testing/monitoring.
  • Change management and testing of BIP
  • Support to Senior Manager Model Risk as appropriate in the compilation of Model Risk MI and other Model Risk activity.
  • Support delivery of the Group Capital Change Programme.
  • Lead on BOIUK Operational Risk requirements for Prudential Risk.

  • Proven experience within a commercial banking, risk rating / credit environment
  • Strong team player with the ability to build effective relationships with multiple internal partners
  • Communication, leadership and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills including Excel skills
  • Business acumen and ability to balance MMF activities with the business needs
  • Proven ability to deliver to tight time deadlines
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of commercial lending and risk rating processes and data flows
  • Good understanding and knowledge of Basel II/CRD Regulatory & Compliance requirements

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Self-motivated with good attention to detail and a creative problem solver
  • Strong project management and organisation skills.
