About the Role

This role is a great opportunity for an experienced and passionate financial services lawyer to join one of Ireland`s premier in house legal teams and involves acting as an expert senior legal advisor in respect of the Bank`s consumer banking products in the Republic of Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior lawyer in the support of the Bank`s products and services for personal banking in the Republic of Ireland. This includes advising on financial products like deposits, current accounts and cheques, debit cards, insurance and consumer credit products such as personal loans, overdrafts, and credit cards.
  • Give advice on day to day retail banking queries.
  • Act as a project lead on projects from a legal perspective as these arise, with particular reference to matters of a regulatory nature.
  • Develop competency and experience in regulatory litigation and the underlying legislative framework and regulatory practices (e.g. investigations, enforcement, fitness and probity); typically leading relevant projects from a legal perspective as a subject matter expert.
  • Act as a key advisor in ongoing legal and regulatory developments including:
  • -Interacting and forging customer service relationships with senior stakeholders in Bank of Ireland and the wider Bank of Ireland Group in order to ensure excellence in the delivery of legal services.
  • - Strategic scanning of consumer banking related legal and regulatory developments of key significance for the Group

Essential Qualifications

A qualified lawyer with excellent people skills and a strong knowledge of banking law/practice and digital/data issues, with a minimum 10 years post-qualification experience in the legal/banking sector.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear and robust legal advice while incorporating a pragmatic commercial viewpoint so that innovative customer solutions are delivered in a compliant manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure in order to deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Pro-active approach which will ensure that Bank of Ireland and the wider Bank of Ireland Group are well positioned in respect of all consumer related legal matters.
  • Solution oriented with clear focus on strong collaboration, engaging stakeholders and contributing to internal legal priorities.
  • Ability to draft terms and conditions using plain English.
