What does Risk Strategy do?

Risk Strategy is part of Group Risk and is responsible for developing and maintaining the Group risk measurement techniques and standards to support key decision making processes including formulating the Group Risk Appetite, conducting Stress Testing, determining internal capital adequacy requirements (ICAAP) and producing Portfolio Risk Analytics and Insights to key stakeholders. Externally, Risk Strategy interacts with Regulators, industry bodies, banks and consulting firms to ensure both adherence to the European regulatory requirements, and to remain at the forefront of industry best-practice in risk measurement techniques.

We are looking for a motivated, problem solving and ambitious senior manager, to work as part of a continuously growing community in Bank of Ireland, who are focussed on using current and developing leading edge modelling tools and techniques to solve complex business issues & problems. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic and cohesive team, where you will frequently work alongside and support various teams across Group Risk, providing direction and leadership at a strategic, policy and functional level. The role offers development and progression opportunities and will afford a high level of exposure to key internal and external parties

Purpose of the Role

The Senior Manager will report into the Head of Regulatory Capital Strategy. They will lead the coordination of the multiple work streams relating to the changing Regulatory Capital landscape

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead in the analysis and implementation of new regulatory requirements impacting the banks and engage in projects regarding implementing these regulatory updates to capital calculations.
  • Identify and quantify the impact to BOI capital adequacy ratios or other types of risk that these changes could represent
  • Identification and classification of Key Risks for the Group
  • Develop detailed understanding of the many interdependent and overlapping potential changes required under the various upcoming CRR II and Basel IV proposals EBA and ECB guidelines, and regulatory feedback affecting the Group.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with the area`s internal stakeholders, this includes: Capital Management, Regulatory Reporting, model developers, and the other teams within Group Risk and Finance.
  • Supporting cross team analysis activities and training and/or mentoring of staff as required.
  • Manage the performance of, Regulatory Capital Strategy, staff as required.

Essential Qualifications

Strong academic background with a graduate qualification and/or an appropriate professional qualification, preferably in Banking Risk Management

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of existing Regulatory Capital requirements (CRR, Basel III etc.)
  • Ability to understand and develop principles underlying the different specific requirements of risk measures (e.g. PD, LGD, EAD etc.).
  • Evidence of adaptability to taking on a Group-wide role that requires collaboration with other Group units.
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage deliverables of self and direct reports to specified timelines.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skill-set, with the ability to identify key messages and trends.
  • Excellent communication and presentation, with the ability to relate to senior management and staff
  • High level of resilience, energy and execution ability, coupled with an imaginative approach to problem solving.

Desirable but not essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of up-coming Regulatory Capital requirements (e.g. Basel III Finalisation, EBA, TRIM, etc.)
  • Ability to assess complex business and regulatory requests, distil significant volumes of information and work with the wider team to deliver responses
