To keep pace with this demand, Bank of Ireland is significantly growing its Risk Analytics function. This represents a once-in-a-career opportunity to be part of the team that builds the next generation of risk analytics models, including all of our Basel IRB capital models, and a large number of our operational credit scorecards.

Description of business unit

Decision Science is the analytical centre of excellence within Group Risk. Our responsibilities include:

  • developing all of the Group's credit risk models, both for use in operational decision-making and for IRB regulatory capital calculation and IFRS9 impairment calculation
  • promoting the use of credit risk models to further automate customer decision-making
  • developing and executing advanced model maintenance processes
  • maintaining credit risk data and producing credit risk reporting and insight
  • implementing and maintaining all of the Group's credit risk models in appropriate technical infrastructures

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage a team of risk modelling specialists to deliver on model development, requirements under IRB regulatory framework for the Group's UK Mortgage portfolio.
  • Manage all model development related activities to support the implementation of new regulatory guidance (EBA, ECB) for the Group's UK Mortgage portfolio.
  • Interpret and derive insightful conclusions from model development analysis and formulate recommendations to present to governance bodies.
  • Deliver high quality presentation material to support model development activities that is easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Develop and implement effective data management and analysis standards for model development.
  • Ensure appropriate governance is followed and model developments fully comply with external regulation and internal governance requirements.
  • Keep up to date with academic, technical and industry developments in the field of credit risk modelling.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have a broader perspective of potential issues/challenges encountered when comparing model philosophies across the organisation.

Essential Qualifications

Third Level Qualification in a quantitative discipline

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of credit risk modelling experience in a financial institution, including some or all of the following: IRB; IFRS 9; loss forecasting; stress testing; economic capital modelling etc.
  • Results orientated with demonstrable track record of managing the delivery of credit risk models to regulatory approval.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capability.
  • Experience of working with statistical / econometric software (e.g. SAS, R, Python, Matlab etc.).
  • Strong relationship and networking skills with the ability to influence subject matter experts at all levels.
  • Self-starter with a can do attitude, and a self-motivated advocate for change, with a track record that demonstrates sound judgement, drive, energy and agility.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to engage staff at all levels.
