Software Asset Technician

Description of business unit

The new Software Management function is responsible for all aspects of software management of software deployed onto the Bank's Network (with the exception of Licensing)

Purpose of the Role

A new function is being created in the Bank to manage the Software on estate. This function will maintain an Inventory of what is on the estate, where it resides, who owns it, its currency, patch level, security status. It will reconcile discovery process to confirm legitimate software. It will liase with Vendors to understand upgrade paths for major products and provide MI to interested parties on future expiry dates of support arrangements. It will provide information to feed into Risk assessments

Key Accountabilities

The Software Management Analyst (SMA)will be accountable for managing the software on the estate. The Role will report to the Head of SMO Operations. The SMA will:

  • Maintain an up to date and accurate Software Asset Management database
  • Implement the procedures and controls required to achieve the above
  • Work with stakeholders (AO, Security etc) to ensure their needs are being met
  • Address all regulatory and Audit requests and ensure that all risks & associated controls are being maintained
  • Ensure all technical teams verify accuracy of relevant data with the database
  • Liaise with the appropriate process owners throughout the service life cycle, ensuring adherence to process within allocated portfolio. (Manage)
  • Proactively use the data Software Data to ensure that all software on the estate is supported and legal
  • Collaborate and ensure regular dialog with Change Delivery, Service Transition, AO, IO & Security to ensure common understanding on service health, service planning and strategy. (Understand & Articulate & Improve)
  • Ensure effect service transition of any new software
  • Recognize the importance of and create a culture of process improvement with a focus on streamlining internal operations with all teams ensuring added value to our business and meeting customer needs. (Improve)
  • Identify opportunities for service improvements, discuss with all internal stakeholders and drive the RFC (request for change) as needed. (Improve)

What is the opportunity

The candidate has the opportunity to be part of the process help to build and a definea new function in the TS organisation that will support the smooth running of operations, manage change and help drive delivery efficiencies.

Essential Qualifications

ITIL Certification or equivalent

Essential Experience
2+ year's experience to include:

- Demonstrable experience of IT service management and service delivery
- Experience in building out a service catalogue, governance, documentation and knowledge base
- Broad knowledge of Bank of Ireland business and how IT Services support same
- Demonstrable experience in discussing technical issues with people at all levels (Customers, Vendors, Service & Business Partners and other Technology Services teams)
- Experience in dealing with multiple international outsource vendors
- Strong customer focused background and commercial awareness

- Proven ability to present service improvement initiatives to both technical and non-technical audiences.
