Description of Business Unit:
The Northridge IT team are part of Group Technology & Customer Solutions (GTCS) area within Bank of Ireland and are responsible for the full end-to-end development and support of a wide range of applications used by Northridge staff and customers. Northridge Finance is one of the UK's most dynamic and partner driven finance houses with over 60 years' experience providing personal and commercial finance to the Motor, Agricultural, Insurance Premium and Leisure finance markets.

Services provided by the highly skilled Northridge IT team range from systems integration architecture, design, security, application and API delivery including platform tooling and support. We deliver flexible and scalable technology that is secure to enable our customers, colleagues and communities to thrive.

Purpose of the Role:
The Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, implementation, maintenance and support of IT applications. There is a wide variety of technical tools utilised for these tasks and the role holder will be required to gain in-depth knowledge and experience of these. Close interaction with stake-holders will be integral to the role, including business owners, 3rd party suppliers, GTCS colleagues and other partners.

The team delivers software following standard methodologies whilst also accepting new technologies. New projects are currently developed using .NET Core and are deployed using DevOps. The Agile/Scrum methodology has been adopted for delivery of systems and the role holder will be an integral part of the Scrum team, participating in Daily Scrum Stand-ups, Sprint reviews and planning meetings

Key Accountabilities:
Requirements gathering, analysis, design, code and testing of efficient IT applications. These will cover a variety of applications including web-sites, web services, printing and MI.
Follow Group Service Introduction & change approval processes to work within group standards and Industry standards as appropriate.
Recommend changes in policies and procedures based upon systems analysis.
Provide software support for production systems, including assisting help desk function with fault resolutions and query responses.
Work with users regarding system requirements, providing assistance in completing requirements documentation.
Research, review & advise on software tools.
Work closely with 3rd party support, when vital to resolve issues with software tools.
Align with audit requirements, specifically ensuring all SDLC standards are adhered.
Ensure applications follow required security controls and standard methodologies
Ensure all relevant software documentation is up-to-date.
Support the Working Together principles.
Be an effective member of the Scrum team.
Develop software verifications plans and associated assurance checks.
Adhere to all the GTCS controls, processes and solutions to minimise business and IT risk.
Operate in compliance with all Group. Legal, Regulatory requirements and standards.


Essential Qualifications:
Third-level qualification in Computer Related Field

Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience designing and developing in C# .NET, n-tier Distributed Solutions, as well as Database schema.
Proven track record of delivering high quality robust and scalable software applications.
Experience of MS/SQL Server is essential, including knowledge to create SQL queries.
Experience applying Software Security standard methodologies.
Experience of Scrum/Agile development environment.
Good interpersonal skills for identifying, assessing and implementing software solutions.
In-depth understanding of various technologies to provide appropriate solutions.
Ability to build and maintain close business relationships with various partners, including business owners, 3rd party suppliers and out-sourced partners.
Capacity to operate on a standalone basis on some activities yet work collaboratively with others as required.
Ability to produce and maintain User documentation.

Knowledge of document production systems is desirable
