Strategic Business Metadata Mapper

  • Dublin, Ireland
  • Full time

The Group Data Modelling Team sits within the Group Data and Analytics Office (GDAO) within GTCS. We have responsibility for capturing and understanding the semantics of the data used by the Bank and organising that into Data Models that are understandable by Bank personnel, both business and technical.

Data Models are produced at both Business and Technical levels. In particular, the Team manages the Business Data Model (BDM - an extensive logical model of the Bank's data and its inter-relationships) and also logical and physical models for the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).

As in any large organisation, the same term may be used to refer to different items, and/or the same item may be referred to in different terms. The Strategic Business Metadata Mapper investigates terms arising in such as Project Requirements, investigates the particular semantics involved and resolves them by mapping against the single unified representation and description of the BDM. This enables us to establish common semantics across the content of reports and regulatory returns.

What is the opportunity?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious team and be a driving force delivering core deliverables that will feed into data integration, data migration, unified reporting and regulatory requirement programs across the Bank.

Training will be provided with respect to knowledge of the BDM, documentation of data mappings and data modelling.

There will be opportunities to learn fundamental data management principals while undertaking the role, in particular Data Modelling

Working at Bank of Ireland doesn't have to mean working in an office to have an impact. Our commitment to enabling colleagues to thrive means that depending on role type you can have choice and flexibility in where you work and live, subject to your role, customer needs and our requirements. We have a hybrid working model, with home, agile hub and office based options available. We will always list a primary location which can be where you go for in person collaboration, and a location where you can best perform your role.

Please note you must live in the jurisdiction for the business to which you are contracted.

This job can be done anywhere in ROI with the primary office location as Dublin to which travel will be required for in person collaboration. Exact frequency to be agreed with manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • The role will involve semantic mapping of data requirements, data specifications and source system content against the BDM -hence requiring an ability to compare items from different sources and identify any semantic commonality/difference
  • Consolidate any issues encountered during the analysis/comparison in a workflow process and work with both business and technical stakeholders across multiple departments and projects to accurately resolve any such issues
  • Document the agreed mappings according to Bank standards
  • Ensuring all mappings meet the data requirement and align across systems
  • Where BDM gaps are identified, produce modelling proposals for BDM extensions
  • The candidate will necessarily need to become familiar over time with the Bank's data, operations and processes

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous engagement in a semantic mapping role
  • Strong analytical skills which can be applied to different problems, with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage with business and technical stakeholders
  • Creatively solve problems with innovative solutions, where sometimes a 'template' or process does not exist
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Hands-on experience with MS Office, especially Word, Excel and Visio
