Description of business unit

The NI & Partnership Distribution business unit is one of three customer focussed business units in the Bank's Retail UK Division which brings together all our direct to consumer businesses in Northern Ireland with our partnerships with the AA and Post Office.

The Strategy and Governance team is a critical component of the NI & Partnership Distribution business unit and exists to provide planning and support of governance activity, strategic planning and reporting of business unit objectives and the development and delivery of internal communication and engagement. As a focal point of a critical range of activities it is pivotal in our mission to transform the bank.

Purpose of the Role

The Strategy and Engagement Lead will report to the Head of Strategy, Governance and Risk and will have responsibility for assisting in the development and oversight of strategy for the business unit and business unit teams (Branch Banking, Business Banking, Products and Solutions, Customer Loan Solutions and the Post Office and AA partnerships). The Strategy and Engagement Lead will also have responsibility for the internal communications and engagement agenda for the business unit.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead / facilitate the development and communication of strategic and business objectives for the business unit
  • Ensure strategic direction and key messaging for business unit is aligned with Divisional and Group strategy and messaging
  • Develop, co-ordinate and oversee internal strategic and business reporting for the business unit ensuring one integrated view of Business Unit activity
  • Co-ordinate business unit customer plan and submissions to UK Customer Board and other fora as required
  • Design and deliver an internal communications and engagement plan to share key messaging and foster colleague engagement across the business unit
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of high quality strategy and governance papers and presentations for Group and Divisional fora as required
  • Co-ordinate and communicate CSR activities at a local level, utilising local partnerships as appropriate
  • Curate governance and strategy documentation on behalf of the NI business unit
  • Support delivery of the governance agenda for the business unit
  • Provide assistance to the Head of Governance, Strategy & Risk and the Strategy and Governance team as required
  • Proactively develop and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, both internally and externally

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the strategic direction of the business unit and to assume the role of chief "story teller" for the business unit - both to colleagues and to senior management audiences. You'll be working in the heart of the business in a small team of enthusiastic and passionate people who strive to do the right thing and make the Bank a better place to work. In addition to the key accountabilities the successful candidate will assist the Head of Strategy, Governance and Risk and the Director, NI & Partnerships with ad-hoc strategic and governance requests as required. The role requires frequent engagement with senior management and exposure to sensitive material.

This job can be done anywhere in UK with the primary office location as Northern Ireland to which travel may be required for in person collaboration. Exact frequency to be agreed with line manager.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree level education or equivalent professional qualification and experience.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills with experience of writing high quality papers and reports
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills and attention to detail
