What is the opportunity?

This is an exciting opportunity to join New Ireland Assurance as Head of Compliance & Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), a senior leadership role with influence across the business and wider Bank of Ireland Group. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), you will lead the Compliance function, provide independent oversight and challenge, and help ensure strong customer outcomes, regulatory compliance and financial crime risk management. You will work closely with the Board, Executive teams, regulators and Group stakeholders, helping to shape the compliance agenda for one of Ireland's leading life insurance providers.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and continue to enhance New Ireland's compliance, conduct risk, anti money laundering (AML) and counter terrorist financing (CFT) frameworks, ensuring they remain aligned to regulatory expectations and business priorities.
  • Deliver the annual Compliance Plan, including monitoring, assurance and thematic review activities, providing clear insight into emerging risks, findings and actions.
  • Provide independent oversight, advice and constructive challenge on regulatory compliance, conduct risk, customer outcomes, business initiatives, strategic change and remediation activities.
  • Act as MLRO and senior regulatory contact, leading regulatory engagement, financial crime compliance activities, horizon scanning and governance reporting.
  • Lead and develop experienced compliance professionals while supporting the embedding of the Risk Management Framework across New Ireland and the wider Group.

What will make you stand out?

You are an experienced and credible leader who can build trusted relationships while maintaining appropriate independence and challenge. You combine strong regulatory judgement with a practical and customer focused approach, helping businesses meet requirements while delivering positive outcomes.

You will have experience leading compliance, conduct risk, AML/CFT or broader risk management frameworks within a regulated financial services environment. You will also be comfortable engaging with Boards, Executive teams, regulators and senior stakeholders on complex matters.

Experience with the following will help you stand out but is not required to apply for this role:

  • Previous experience performing PCF12 and PCF52 responsibilities.
  • Experience within the insurance sector.
  • Knowledge of the Irish and European regulatory environment, including the Consumer Protection Code, Solvency II and the Individual Accountability Framework.
  • Understanding of the Bank of Ireland Group Risk Management Framework and New Ireland's products and operations.

Essential qualifications

  • A relevant academic or professional qualification in compliance, risk, legal, financial crime or a related discipline.
  • Capability to meet the Central Bank of Ireland Fitness and Probity requirements for PCF12 (Head of Compliance) and PCF52 (Head of Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing).
