Feeling a bit nervous about your upcoming online interview? That’s completely normal - and we’re here to help. This guide is designed to make sure you feel confident, comfortable and fully prepared for your virtual meeting. Let’s get started!

Your interview invitation

If your interview with Bank of Ireland is online, you’ll get a Microsoft Teams invite by email for the agreed date and time.

Be sure to check in with your recruiter if you don't receive the link in advance!

Get Microsoft Teams ready

You can download the Microsoft Teams app on your preferred device, or join the call through your browser. Just make sure you have access ahead of time to avoid any last-minute issues.

Choose the right space

Prepare for your virtual interview by finding a quiet and bright space where you feel comfortable. If you're not sure what to wear, you can ask your recruiter about the dress code. We want you to feel confident and at ease at all times!

Check your tech

Before your interview, ensure your internet connection is stable and your device is fully charged. Check that the Microsoft Teams app is working properly and adjust your audio settings to your preference. If you’re using wireless headphones, make sure they are charged and paired in advance.

Wait for the meeting to begin

Join the call at least 5 minutes before your scheduled time. You'll most likely enter a virtual waiting room, and the interview panel will admit you once they're ready to begin.  Don't worry if there's a short delay, your interviewer may be running a few minutes behind, but they'll join you soon.

What to do if you have technical difficulties

If your Wi-Fi slows down or disconnects during the call, don’t worry! Try these steps to get back online:

  • Switch networks: Connect to another Wi-Fi or use your phone’s hotspot.
  • Restart Teams: Close and reopen the app.
  • Restart your device: A quick reboot can often fix connectivity issues.
  • Switch devices: Try joining the call on your phone instead of a laptop.

If you still can’t rejoin, email your recruiter as soon as you can to let them know. They’ll provide support and guidance on next steps.

Be yourself

At Bank of Ireland, we’re proud to support hybrid and flexible working. Microsoft Teams is a key part of how we connect with colleagues and customers every day.

So there’s no need to feel nervous - just try to remove any distractions and chat with your interview panel as if you were meeting in person.

We hope this guide has helped you to feel more prepared and at ease in advance of your online interview. If you have any other questions, just reach out. We’re here to support you every step of the way. Best of luck!
