What is the opportunity?

You will play a lead role in delivering the requirements of the Risk Management Function for New Ireland. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the New Ireland Senior Management team, Board, and BOI Group Risk Function.

This role offers an outstanding opportunity to improve your people leadership skills, gain technical risk experience, and have a direct impact at a senior level. The role entails supporting the CRO in implementing the risk strategy for New Ireland. You will collaborate with the Head of Compliance, Head of Operational Risk, Head of Financial Risk, and Head of Legal.

In this role you will:

  • Support the CRO in setting and driving the risk agenda for New Ireland, including developing the RMF, policies, and strategy, as a key member of the Risk Leadership Team.
  • Prepare and ensure approval of the Company's Risk Appetite Statement, and articulate the key aspects to partners across the business.
  • Act as the primary advisor to the CRO and executive team on enterprise risks, ensuring a comprehensive view of the Company's risk landscape.
  • Partner with senior leadership to embed risk management principles and practices into strategic decision-making and operational processes.
  • Work closely with Group Risk Function and Group Internal Audit (GIA) to align frameworks and policies, considering the insurance company's specific risk profile.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Financial Risk and the Actuarial Function to support the ORSA process, effectively communicating key conclusions and implementing recommendations.
  • Perform risk analyses and draft risk reports on behalf of the CRO for Senior Management, New Ireland Board, and Group Committees.
  • Lead the Executive Risk Committee (ERC), working collaboratively with the Risk Leadership Team and other areas of the business.
  • Act as key liaison for the New Ireland Company Secretary in supporting the operation of the Board Risk Committee (BRC) and risk inputs to the Board.
  • Follow through on all actions arising from ERC and BRC to ensure consistent and coherent responses from a risk perspective.
  • Provide support for CRO and the broader risk team, including in engagement with MD, SMT, Board, and Group Risk partners.
  • Coordinate and lead the Risk Management Function budget delivery, FTE deliverables, and Risk input to the Operating Plan.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop colleagues to provide effective support and challenge to the business to deliver business strategy while leading risks appropriately.

Experience with any of the following will help you to stand out but is not necessary in order to apply for this role:

  • Extensive experience of the life and pensions business
  • Strong understanding and experience of enterprise risk management, governance, and control frameworks and practices.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory landscape, particularly Solvency II
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly-organised and self-motivated individual with the ability to prioritise effectively, lead multiple tasks, and work independently.
  • Ability to effectively lead across functions to ensure delivery against objectives and improving potential
  • A proven ability to work optimally with, and constructively challenge and influence the actions of partners up to and including senior management level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience in writing papers to a Board standard.

Essential Qualifications

Relevant professional qualification (e.g. actuarial, accounting, risk management) with significant post-qualification experience.

More about the team

The Head of Enterprise Risk Management reports to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and will be part of the Risk Leadership Team.

This is a hybrid role and can be done anywhere in the Republic of Ireland with the primary office location as Dublin. Travel will be required for in-person collaboration, with the exact frequency to be agreed with the manager.
