What is the opportunity?

As a high-performing Internal Audit team, GIA provide independent, challenging and risk focused assurance, insight and opinion to the Group and support the Group in achieving its strategic objectives. You will lead assurance activity and provide subject matter expertise relating to key risks. This is a visible and impactful position within GIA, reporting into a Head of Audit, and you will develop a broad range of relationships with key partners across the organisation.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as the Senior Risk Expert for the assigned risk types: Conduct Risk - Business Processes
  • Lead our engagement with Republic of Ireland customer facing divisions (Retail and Corporate and Commercial) and the delivery of our bottom up business process assurance programme
  • Accountable for providing ongoing monitoring and contribute to our periodic audit Control Environment opinion in relation to your assigned risk area and support broader assurance planning
  • Deliver effective audit opinions with agility and in a changing environment;
  • Responsible for leading individual assurance projects from scoping through to reporting.
  • Build strong and sustainable relationships across Bank of Ireland in accountable divisions;
  • Work closely with Leadership to ensure that an appropriate assurance programme is devised and implemented to provide objective and challenging assurance on a range of key risks across the Bank.
  • Develop & maintain an in-depth understanding of the key priorities, risks & challenges facing the Group and accountable risks.
  • Work with colleagues in GIA to evaluate internal controls and processes in order to provide objective and challenging risk based assurance through the planning, execution and reporting of audits/reviews;

What will make you stand out?

  • Extensive knowledge in the key risk area / critical customer processes
  • Relevant experience in Internal Audit or Risk and in operating in an environment with significant regulatory or compliance requirements e.g. Financial Services etc.
  • Relevant experience in business and industry knowledge in the key subject area
  • Methodology & Analytical Skills - Solid understanding of internal control concepts with the ability to evaluate and determine the adequacy of controls by considering business objectives and risks in an integrated manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Track record that demonstrates good judgement, drive, agility and resilience
  • Strategic mentality with an ability to understand and communicate technical issues in a business context

Essential Qualifications

  • Qualified or working towards a relevant Internal Auditor qualification (Certified Internal Auditor - CIA, or Certified Information System Auditor - CISA) or Accountancy qualification ACA/ACCA

GIA forms the 3rd line of defence for the Bank of Ireland Group. GIA's purpose is 'to Help Make Bank of Ireland Better', including providing independent assurance to key partners on the effectiveness of the Group's risk management and internal control frameworks. To fulfil this purpose, GIA carries out risk based assignments, covering Group businesses and functions. We provide additional insight through its attendance at key governance fora and committees across the Group. Key partners include the Board, the Group Audit Committee, key subsidiaries' audit and risk committees and senior management, as well as other key parties, including the Group's regulators and external auditors. GIA's findings are communicated to senior management and other key partners, with remediation plans monitored for progress against agreed completion dates. We have a Group-wide remit and, as a result, have a deep insight into all of the Group's activities and access to the most senior levels within the Group.
