What is the opportunity?

Join our Data Engineering team in this exciting time as we implement Bank of Ireland's new cloud based data lake, take advantage of AI opportunities and transition workloads to that new Enterprise Data Lake platform.

As Senior Test Engineer, you will be responsible for technical leadership, hands-on engineering and mentoring of Test engineers within our Data Engineering function. We work in agile delivery model to engineer high quality solutions for both our Enterprise Data Warehouse and Enterprise Data Lake platforms. You will gain experience across both platforms building integrated data pipelines.

We work in a very collaborative environment with a learning culture and you will use your experience to help guide future development across the team, the tools we use, help drive automation and introduce new and exciting engineering patterns and frameworks!

In this Role, you will

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to other Test engineers
• Take the lead in enabling the testing of complex data flows and process's using our Enterprise Data Warehouse & Data Lake
• Make decisions on Test frameworks, tooling and patterns
• Advocate and drive Automation and the adoption of processes such as BDD/TDD
• Solve complex technical problems and provide creative solutions from your experience or through a rational problem solving process
• Work with the Business to implement Test Strategies and complete Test Plans
• Drive evolution and adoption of Test standards, best practice and processes across platforms and teams

What Will Make You Stand Out

You have a proven track record (7+ years) as Test Engineer in the Data Lake or Data Warehouse domain. You have knowledge of Data Lake, Cloud Technologies and Architecture, preferably AWS.

Further technical knowledge and/or experience in the below are necessary to apply:

• Demonstrable experience of testing complex data Pipelines and data flows
• Agile Testing practices and guidelines, including Defect Management
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, Pyspark
• Ability to define and recommend right sized Test data and automate test data creation/refresh
• Promote test data literacy and support evangelise test data reuse
• Test automation using tools and frameworks ( e.g. pyTest, BDD etc)
• Proficient in various database technologies (Teradata, Oracle Big data/Hadoop)
• Testing event driven systems with tools like Kafka, NiFi, Flink, Spark Streaming
• Familiarity with AI concepts and willingness to explore LLM's, Generative AI and Machine Learning
• Certified in ISTQB Advanced
• Certification in Cloud (preferably in AWS)
• Certification in Agile methodology

Experience with any of the following will help you to stand out but is not necessary in order to apply for this role;

• Understanding of REST APIs and Testing
• Cloudera Data Platform and appropriate Cloudera certifications
• The ability to derive and share Data-Driven insights with Business and Technical teams
• The ability of identifying and introducing process optimisations

Our growing and exciting Data Engineering team provides the engineering services for the Group's Enterprise Data Warehouse and Enterprise Data Lake. We sit within the Group Data & Analytics Office which is the core team for all things data in the bank.

We deliver the data elements to support Digital, Customer, Regulatory and other change initiatives that drive the Group's transformation agenda.
