A career in banking can take you in any number of directions. Working with Bank of Ireland means you will have the development and support to ensure you take the opportunities that come your way. Let's hear more about life at Bank of Ireland from some of our colleagues.

Nuala McDaid talks about her career in Bank of Ireland, and her journey from Criminal Law solicitor to Branch Manager.

Tell us about your career so far in Bank of Ireland

I graduated from the University of Ulster with a BA Hons degree in Law and Business Studies before moving to England to complete my professional training. I secured a training contact and two years later qualified as a Solicitor. I specialised in Criminal Law, working for a private practice in Bedfordshire for 4 years.

I returned to Northern Ireland after having my family and began working with Bank of Ireland through an agency. I secured a permanent position as a Banking Assistant shortly afterwards and 3 years later was successful in my application for Customer Service Manager. Just over 2 years later I was promoted to Branch Manager and I am now based in Magherafelt Branch.

What does a typical day look like for you and your team?

No two days are the same in a branch, but typically we start with a team meeting in the morning before getting the cash area ready for opening. Throughout the day we are serving our customers brilliantly, dealing with any queries or issues as they arise whilst also ensuring we are operating in a compliant and secure way.

What do you enjoy most about working with Bank of Ireland?

I love the sense of teamwork I feel when working for Bank of Ireland. My colleagues in the Branch and across all departments have a wealth of knowledge and I feel that every day I am learning something new.

How does the culture in Bank of Ireland enable you to thrive at work?

It allows me to work in a flexible way which is very important as a mother of young children. Although I need to work from the branch everyday given my role, Bank of Ireland have always afforded me flexibility any time I have needed it. Knowing they care means a lot and is a definite source of motivation.
