What is the opportunity?

We're excited to announce the launch of the Agile Centre of Expertise (ACE) - a pivotal initiative designed to champion agile ways of working, support continuous improvement, and provide clear guardrails for agile adoption across Bank of Ireland.

As an Agile Coach, you'll play a pivotal role in embedding agile principles across Tribes and Squads. You'll work closely with Heads of Tribes, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and customer-centric delivery. Your expertise will help teams interpret agile metrics, drive performance, and align with strategic goals!

In this role, you will:

Agile Enablement

  • Coach & Mentor: Provide tailored coaching to Heads of Tribes, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Squads across frameworks like Scrum and Kanban.
  • Assess Agile Maturity: Evaluate team maturity and adapt coaching strategies to meet evolving needs.
  • Facilitate Agile Ceremonies: Lead retrospectives, workshops, and planning sessions that spark insight and drive improvement.
  • Promote Product Thinking: Shift focus from task completion to delivering long-term customer value.
  • Champion Psychological Safety: Foster an environment where experimentation, open dialogue, and servant leadership thrive.

Cross-Role Coaching

  • Support Scrum Masters: Help develop servant leadership and enable high-performing teams.
  • Empower Product Owners: Guide backlog prioritisation and partner engagement for maximum impact.
  • Advise Tribe Leadership: Align objectives and key results, governance, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
  • Facilitate Big Room Planning: Ensure effective coordination and alignment during PI/Big Room Planning sessions.

Scaled Agile & Transformation Leadership

  • Implement Disciplined Agile: Support adoption and evolution of the Bank's Disciplined Agile Framework.
  • Collaborate with ACE: Partner with the Agile Centre of Excellence to refine practices and promote agile governance.

Product & Delivery Alignment

  • Partner with Product Owners: Ensure backlogs reflect customer and business value.
  • Enhance Backlog Management: Support refinement, iteration planning, and delivery readiness.
  • Advocate DevOps Practices: Promote CI/CD and DevOps methodologies to streamline delivery.

What will make you stand out?

  • Proven experience in Agile environments, with current experience in a coaching role.
  • Deep expertise in Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
  • Proven experience leading Agile transformations and coaching distributed teams.
  • Strong facilitation, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Solid understanding of software development, DevOps, and CI/CD.

Experience with any of the following will help you to stand out but is not necessary in order to apply for this role;

  • Agile certifications (e.g., CSPO, ICA, SAFe) are a plus but not crucial.
  • Practical experience and partner leadership skills are highly valued.
  • A track record in product delivery is desirable.
