What is the opportunity?

This is an exciting opportunity to support and help in the BOI IT transformation journey!

The Platform Engineer in Digital Services Operations (VMWare Hybrid Cloud) will coordinate the efforts of Bank and vendor technical teams to manage the service delivery and maintenance of the new Core Banking Systems Cloud Infrastructure. You will work with the best talent in a multi-vendor environment in a friendly dynamic and flexible team.

In this role, you will:

  • Accountable for implementing and managing the VMware Hybrid Cloud platform and all virtual infrastructure components, ensuring their security, currency, and vulnerability management. Provide strategic direction on security and vulnerabilities while maintaining strong governance with vendor partners and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the virtual estate is reliable, scalable, and highly available through well?'planned solutions and increased automation. Coordinate infrastructure partners in maintaining and supporting the environment, raising issues when needed, and acting as the technical SME for CBS Virtual Infrastructure within Digital Service Operations.
  • Drive continual improvement across Bank and vendor teams, maintaining standards, controls, and processes to minimise IT and business risk. Manage and close risks within your remit, ensure compliance with Group, Legal, and Regulatory requirements, and support internal and external audits, including remediation of audit actions.
  • Coordinate change, maintenance, and operations of platforms and applications within scope, ensuring performance and alignment with strategic goals. Promote a strong engineering culture, foster collaboration, and ensure effective communication and clarity across teams.

What will make you stand out?

You will have great experience working with multiple outsourced vendors, managing the day?'to?'day health, security, and vulnerability posture of hybrid?'cloud environments. Your background includes strong hands?'on experience in hybrid?'cloud support and design, troubleshooting enterprise?'level infrastructure issues, and resolving business?'impacting incidents. You have a solid understanding of VMware hybrid?'cloud technologies delivered through automated pipelines, and you consistently look for opportunities to innovate and enhance automated operational processes.

Your experience in IT service management and service delivery is supported by a strong customer?'focused approach, commercial awareness, and a track record of improving and streamlining processes. Confident communicating service?'improvement initiatives to both technical and non?'technical audiences, demonstrating your ability to bridge operational detail with strategic value.

Experience with any of the following will help you to stand out but is not vital in order to apply for this role;

  • Strong VMWare virtualisation skills (VMware NSX, vROPS, vRNI, vRA) plus strong knowledge of openstack tooling (VIO/VCF/Ansible/etc...) and components (Neutron, Nova, Glance.
  • Micro segmentation and segregation technologies and concepts.
  • Exposure to containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Visualisation concepts in a multi tenancy environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of logical load balancers, firewalls, switches delivered on NSX technologies.
  • Red Hat Linux/Windows operating softwares.

Essential Qualifications

  • ITIL Certification or equivalent
  • Must be VMware Certified Professional

The Digital Services Operations Team role is to "Enable the Service" through driving our partners in providing the Bank with the Technology required to run the business, securing the Customers and Banks data, improving stability and remaining current in order to provide a world-class service.

This is a hybrid role, based primarily at Cabinteely , Dublin. We typically ask colleagues to spend a minimum of 8 days per month working in-person to support collaboration and connection. Specific arrangements will be confirmed by your recruiter to ensure they meet the needs of the role and team.
