What is the opportunity?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team in the Group Credit Risk division of Bank of Ireland and gain exposure to a range of credit risk oversight activities across the Corporate & Commercial Banking ('C&CB) loan portfolios (i.e. Corporate & SME Banking, Leveraged Finance, Property Finance and Sustainable Energy & Infrastructure).

You will be accountable for 2LOD credit risk oversight and management of designated C&CB loan portfolios and have the opportunity to provide leadership and collaborate with senior partners across 1LOD and 2LOD to both shape and implement the C&CB lending strategy.

In this role, you will:

  • Part of leadership team overseeing a small team of credit risk professionals, supervising the delivery of high quality 2LOD credit risk analysis and opinions for presentation at board-level and executive-level risk committees, as well as internal and external partners (including regulators and external auditors).
  • Lead credit risk management oversight and challenge with regard to origination and loan life-cycle credit management strategies for designated C&CB loan portfolios.
  • Engage constructively with key partners, including senior leaders in the C&CB and Group Risk divisions, as a recognised credit risk expert.
  • Be responsible for completion of effective, sample based, quality assurance of lending and credit underwriting activities carried out by 1LOD teams against relevant criteria (e.g. credit policy/ standards, discretion, terms, etc).
  • Constructively challenge the appropriateness of loan origination standards, procedures and impairment measurement processes.
  • Leverage emerging data/ MI capabilities to facilitate production of credit risk insights (e.g. monitoring early warning indicators / trend analysis to identify emerging risks) and influence credit risk management decisions.
  • Monitor regulatory changes as they relates to credit risk in C&CB lending and any related impacts such as IFRS 9 impairment measurement, asset quality reporting/ monitoring, etc.

What will make you stand out?

  • Seasoned experience in a commercial lending role and/or working in a risk management environment.
  • Highly motivated with an ability to meet targets within tight timeframes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to deliver in an environment of continuous change and influence senior leaders.
  • Clear understanding of relevant regulatory guidelines and internal risk management framework.
  • Strong analytical skills, including analysis and interrogation of data to identify trends and articulate credit insights.
  • Outstanding written communication skills, with ability to create papers/ presentations to Board-level standard.

In addition though not crucial the following would be a strong bonus!

  • Experience within Corporate Banking and / or Business Banking lending or underwriting teams.
  • People management experience.

Corporate & Commercial Credit Risk is a team that sits within Group Risk and is responsible for second line of defence (2LOD) credit risk oversight and management of the Corporate & Commercial Banking lending portfolios.

This is a hybrid role, based primarily at the Dublin office. We typically ask colleagues to spend a minimum of 8 days per month working in-person to support collaboration and connection. Specific arrangements will be confirmed by your recruiter to ensure they meet the needs of the role and team.
