What is the opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join Group Internal Audit at Bank of Ireland, the third line of defence, where our purpose is to help make the bank better. As an Audit Manager, you will lead audits across Customer Protection, Mortgage, Retail and Corporate & Commercial Banking (C&CB). You will provide independent, risk-focused assurance and deliver meaningful insights that support senior management and Board decision-making. This is a varied and rewarding role where your expertise will directly influence how the bank manages risk and serves its customers.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead end-to-end audit engagements, from planning through to reporting, ensuring delivery aligns to agreed timelines, budget and quality standards
  • Assess and challenge internal controls across Retail, Mortgage and C&CB, using data and insights to form clear, evidence-based conclusions
  • Deliver concise and impactful audit reports, translating findings into practical and forward-looking actions for senior partners
  • Identify emerging risks, trends and control weaknesses, contributing to audit planning and improving audit methodologies
  • Build strong partner relationships, lead and support audit teams, and encourage collaboration to deliver high-quality outcomes

What will make you stand out?

You bring strong experience in internal audit, risk assurance or risk management within financial services, along with a clear understanding of control frameworks and regulatory expectations. You are comfortable working across complex environments, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes.

You communicate clearly and confidently, adapting your style to engage senior stakeholders and influence decisions. Your ability to think critically helps you identify root causes and translate complex issues into practical insights. You enjoy leading teams, supporting development and creating a positive, high-performing environment.

Experience with the following will help you stand out but is not required to apply for this role:

  • Mortgages, retail banking or corporate and commercial banking
  • Customer journeys, complaints handling, product governance or vulnerability frameworks
  • Data analytics or innovative audit techniques

Essential qualifications

Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or a recognised accountancy qualification.
