What is the opportunity?

The role holder is the SMF16 for BOIUK Plc and GovCo's EEA Branch activity in the UK and is responsible for providing compliance advice, oversight and reporting on all aspects of the Bank's compliance and conduct profile.

The role holder is responsible for regulatory affairs including maintaining positive regulatory relationships. The role holder is a member of the Executive Risk Committee; Regulatory & Operational Risk Committee; Group PSAGC and chairs the UK Products Services Approvals Governance Committee.

In this role, you will:

  • Expert compliance advice to the business on all aspects of PRA and FCA rules, ensuring solution focused, understandable, pragmatic advice enabling the business to operate safely.
  • Maintaining and cascading to the business a suite of compliance policies.
  • Compliance monitoring on all aspects of the business to ensure compliance with internal policies, external rules, industry codes and regulatory expectations.
  • Developing MI/reporting to the Board on Compliance and the Bank's conduct risk profile.
  • Regulatory change, engagement and strategy, including liaison with PRA, FCA, Bank of England, European Central Bank, Competition & Markets Authority, and the Information Commissioner.
  • Management of all regulatory visits and inspections including skilled persons reviews.
  • Preparing Board and ExCo members for regulatory meetings including approved persons interviews.
  • The upstream/pipeline regulatory identification process, responding to Consultation Papers, attending industry events to advocate for the Bank and influence the regulatory agenda.
  • Conduct risk, including strengthening the conduct risk management framework, working in partnership with the business to provide consistent and easy to understand arrangements.
  • Chair of the New Product Approval Committee to ensure new/existing products are appropriate.
  • SMF responsibility for training the business on UK Conduct Rules and other Compliance requirements.
  • Maintenance of the UK Senior Managers Regime requirements, including applications for approvals, waivers and submission of Fitness & Propriety assessments.
  • Responsibility for whistleblowing arrangements and investigations;Responsibility for the Bank's Data Protection and Privacy Framework and arrangements.
  • Oversight of distribution of Bank products through the UK Post Office network.
  • Overseeing regulatory change projects as appropriate and for liaison with BOIG by attendance at the Prudential Regulatory Developments Forum.

What will make you stand out?

Experienced senior Risk professional (10+ years) with deep Prudential, Conduct and Compliance expertise gained in a Retail Banking environment or a Regulatory supervisory role.

Significant experience of operating in the UK banking regulated environment and a sound knowledge of the regulatory and legal environment in which the business and Group operates

Third level/professional qualification desired demonstrating excellent financial literacy and business acumen.

Demonstrated understanding of PRA and FCA regulatory requirements.

Up to date knowledge of directly/indirectly working in a regulated environment and best practice therein

Credibility at senior management and Board level with proven ability to influence the proportionate, risk based approach to mitigation and monitoring.

Ability to articulate and communicate complex concepts and thinking to a range of stakeholders

Shown leadership track record including previous successful experience leading within a compliance or conduct risk function

A thoughtful solutions provider with the ability to create and appreciate the unconventional

Ability to formulate strategies and execute effectively through well-defined initiatives & plans.

Insightful strategic thinking, sound knowledge of relevant market trends and competitive environment

Proactive operating style with ability to identify issues (where possible) before they impact materially upon the business

The Conduct & Compliance Team advises the business to ensure that it complies with legal and regulatory requirements; acts as a radar for upcoming new rules and advises on how to implement them; liaises with regulators; sets standards for risk management through issuing frameworks; co-ordinates the Bank's Risk Appetite; challenges the business to make sure it is living within the Group's values and is treating customers fairly; and oversees the business to make sure it is operating in accordance with rules and regulations. We also run Whistleblowing investigations and Data Protection.

This is a hybrid role, based primarily at the office. We typically ask colleagues to spend a minimum of 8 days per month working in-person to support collaboration and connection. Specific arrangements will be confirmed by your recruiter to ensure they meet the needs of the role and team."
