What is the opportunity?

This is a senior leadership role within Group Internal Audit (GIA), the third line of defence for Bank of Ireland. As Senior Audit Manager - Credit Risk, you will shape and deliver assurance across one of the Group's key risk areas. You will lead complex, risk based audits, provide clear insight to senior management and committees, and help strengthen credit risk management and control frameworks across the Group.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead end to end delivery of complex Credit Risk audit engagements, managing scope, resources, timelines and budget in line with GIA methodology.
  • Define audit strategy and approach, ensuring key risks across the credit lifecycle are appropriately covered.
  • Assess the design and effectiveness of credit risk controls and contribute to the overall Control Environment Opinion.
  • Deliver clear, balanced audit reports that explain root causes, impacts and practical recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, providing credible challenge and leading engagement throughout the audit lifecycle.

You can translate complex regulatory and technical issues into clear insights that support decision making. You are confident engaging with senior stakeholders and can influence through thoughtful challenge and collaboration.

Experience with the following will help you stand out but is not required to apply for this role:

  • Internal Ratings Based (IRB) models, stress testing or model validation
  • Regulatory engagement or supervisory reviews
  • Experience within large, complex financial institutions

Essential qualifications

A relevant Internal Audit qualification (Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Information Systems Auditor) or an accountancy qualification (ACA or ACCA), or actively working towards one of these.

Group Internal Audit helps make Bank of Ireland better by providing independent assurance over risk management and internal controls. The Credit Risk audit team works closely with colleagues across the Group, covering areas such as origination, underwriting, monitoring and impairment.

This is a collaborative, professional team that values curiosity, integrity and clear thinking.

This is a hybrid role, based primarily at Baggot Plaza, Dublin. We typically ask colleagues to spend a minimum of 8 days per month working in person to support collaboration and connection. Specific arrangements will be confirmed by your recruiter to ensure they meet the needs of the role and team.
